He lost his golden mohawk and now, unless Chad Johnson prevails on appeal, the colorful Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver is going to lose some pesos as well.

The league has fined Johnson $5,000 for wearing "Ocho Cinco" on a Velcro nameplate across the back of his uniform jersey before last Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. "Ocho Cinco," signifying his uniform No. 85, is the name by which Johnson said he wanted to be called the day leading up to the game.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported Monday evening that the league planned to fine Johnson.

Johnson wore the faux nameplate over his real surname on the uniform for pre-game warmups, and it was conspicuous when he met with Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall, against whom he vowed to score two touchdowns, in practice. Just before kickoff, quarterback Carson Palmer ripped off "Ocho Cinco" nameplate, revealing "C. Johnson" on the back of the receiver's jersey.

It's expected that Johnson, who has been fined repeatedly in past seasons for his end zone choreography, will appeal the league's action.

The sixth-year veteran appeared at Wednesday's practice minus the mohawk he has been sporting since training camp. Johnson said last week that he would shave his head if he didn't score at least two touchdowns against the Falcons. He scored only once.

gotta admit, the "Ocho Cinco" thing is pretty funny. I think it's great that he involved Carson Palmer in the gag. The NFL needs to leave this guy alone.

"LOOK AT ME" syndrome and I wonder why our 7th and 8th graders tend to put themselves first and want the attention on them.

i am not a fan of pro sports, but I really like him and manning.

i think that they both find ways to have fun without trying to show up the other team.

Johnson said, Ocho Cinco was used because it was a hispanic awarness day or something like that.

he is a funny guy...also he likes mc donalds...he says he eats it like 3 times a day....all he ever eats :)
(he said that on the Team Mates show on ESPN a while back)

I thought the whole Ocho Cinco thing was funny, but I had a feeling he was going to be fined. It was bound to happen with the way they have been cracking down on celebrations and what not.

there is alot of truth to that.

i like to tell the young ones that they cn do it when they get to the NFL.

and to watch the things that the showboaters do when they have the ball.....most have great fundamentals.

I will never use the "it could be worse" saying. I'm tired of kids getting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for excessive celebration and having to bench kids to just have his parent tell us there was no harm done. "It's not like he punched a kid or anything. " The "look at me" syndrome used to not begin until they got to HS but now its starting in Pewee football because our society allows it. In Pewee they are getting $5,000 tunnels to run through and expensive jersies with their names on the back of them. And then when they get to Junior High they could care less about playing because the sparkle isn't there. We have had kids choose to play pewee football in 7th grade instead of playing Junior High football. It makes me sick. Though it may not be justified fully, I partly blame the NFL.

Don't put all the blame on the NFL. Put most of the blame on the society.

did the kid's put their names on their jerseys? did the kid's pay for the $5,000 tunnel? probably not. don't blame the kids for being kids...blame the parents and coaches for allowing/promoting that type of behavior.

it's society folks... it's all a stupid arguement anyway... in the near future most of the northeast states won't even allow football to be played in High School anymore... it'll slowly trickle down to the south and out to the west, and the NFL will have no choice but to field crappy teams...

WHATS WRONG WITH ADDING A LITTLE GAS TO THE FIRE. HE'S GREAT FOR THE NFL. WE NEED MORE LIKE HIM.
