Buck Fever - can't wait. I have to wait a couple of weeks though so y'all go get 'em! I'll be there soon enough around Junction in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

I saw a nice 10 last weekend in Wharton, I'll never see him again. Well at least not until Jan. 8

Should have taken him instead of waiting a week. You are a better man than me. He would be hanging in a freezer with a tag dated later! Nice buck for Wharton County it sounds like.

I got some great pictures from south texas two weeks ago that I am getting developed, then I will post a link. This one was probably the 3rd best deer I have seen in wharton county. 10pt with approx. 16 3/4 inside.

2 awesome bucks tagged recently in Webb County on same ranch for the Muy Grande Contest. Legal because on Managed Lands Deer Permits:

1.) Typical 10 point with 32 4/8 inch outside beam spread (widest ever in 41 year history of Muy Grande)

2.) 180 lb. field dressed 12 point buck with 26 3/8 inch outside beam spread; scored 381 6/8 contest points (may win all-around title)

WOW!

No, it was in the Houston Chronicle Outdoors section. Probably a website though. One of the hunters was from Bailey's Prairie.

Dont kill the poor deer. How dumb lets sneak up on a animal and shoot his brains out and hang his horns in your game room.

That opinion & 2 quarters will get you a cup of coffee!
:)

Horns are permanent (like a cow)
Antlers are shed & grow back each year (like a male deer)

carter08

To get those antlers you take a gun and murder an innocent being

Then don't eat the venison either.

I am disappointed in you Brazoria County boy! J/K

Instead of shooting you can always use your pick-up - that way you can call it deer suicide and still have antlers to hang on your wall - no guilt, no remorse (and no venison either)

It might have been typical I'm not sure.

Successful at what? LOL. I have never shot anything opening weekend, because most of the places I hunt are very secure and I can hold out until later.

Same here, I usually like to hold out unless it is huge. First weekend for me is more about the drinking and socializing. I like to scope out the situation to see what all the other hunters are seeing before I shoot anything.

Is that a coyote or a small hog? I couldn't tell but think it's a coyote (this monitor stinks). Buddy of mine used to run a place in Cotulla, now he is in LaPryor. Name is Eric Garner (oldest son of Phil Garner). Good friend at A&M.

You should have no shortage of nice deer where you hunt, esp. South Texas.

Got this in my email today. I don't know if Ted really said this, but it's funny, nontheless...

Ted Nugent on Deer Hunting

Ted was being interviewed by a French journalist.

The journalist asked, "What do you think is the last thought in the head of a deer before you shoot him?
Is it, "Are you my friend?" or is it "Are you the one who killed my brother?'"

Nugent replied, "Deer aren't capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, "What am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away. They are very much like the French."

 :D
