Commerce is in danger of their streak coming to an end as they are currently 4th in their district standings...

This is only counting through 2005.

Amazing feats:

Celina's 6 State Championships in 12 years
Katy and Calallen's 8 Region Titles during their respective appearances
La Marque making the State Quarterfinals 13 out of the past 16 years

and you can't tell from the above chart but Calallen also has won 16 consecutive Bi-district games.... 20 out of the last 21.

In 1979 Gregory-Portland set the record at that time for most consecutive playoff appearances at 11 times. They had tied it the year before but in the 11th many didn't think they would win district but they did and got to the semi finals before a tie (losing on penetrations) keep them from the State Championship game. They had a 3 way tie in district in 1975 (I think) but they won the coin flip and advanced. I am sure this record has been broken but what is remarkable is that during these years only the District Champions advanced in the playoffs. There were no second place or even third or fourth place teams that advanced.

Actually Phil, Gregory-Portland won 12 district championships in a row from 1969 to 1980 and no, that record has not been broken in the sense that G-P was the #1 seed from their district 12 consecutive years. Two teams have tied them as being the #1 district seed entering the playoffs 12 years in a row but no one has surpassed it. Austin Westlake did it 1991-2002 and Pilot Point did it 1979-1990.

Commerce is looking less and less likely to extend their 15 year streak this year but they do still have an outside chance.

Kilgore needs to beat Marshall this week to avoid their 11 year streak ending.

Out of the remainder of the top 20, only Italy which is 0-9 and has lost their last 11 consecutive games and 2-6 Garrison are guaranteed to have their streaks end this year.

Does anyone know what's happened at Italy? It was one of the most successful programs in the state over the past 20 years with a 192-52-1 record from 1986-2005 and now they have an 11 game losing streak going....

Thank you WOS! I didn't remember them winning it in 1980. I am sure that with second and third place (and 5A in some classes) that the record will be broken in the future.
