Ja'Mar Toombs is a little jealous of Jorvorskie Lane. Toombs was a fullback who got a lot of carries. Lane is a tailback who rarely has to run block.

But Toombs, the former Texas A&M fan favorite, loves everything else about Lane. He sees a lot of himself in the way Lane drags defenders down the field.

"My God, he has a nose for the end zone," Toombs said.

Toombs is working for a mortgage office in Irving while hoping to resume his football career. He turned pro after his junior season but wasn't drafted. Toombs played arena football for the Desperados.

Toombs, who said he weighed about 260 pounds his last two years of college, rushed 350 times for 1,360 yards at A&M from 1998 to 2000. He became aware of his heir apparent when Lane was starring at Lufkin. The two met before the A&M-Texas game last fall.

"I like that the coaches embrace him for what he is," Toombs said.
