FISHER BACK TO TEXAS?

There is increasing talk/rumor/speculation in league circles that the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys could be current Titans coach Jeff Fisher.

As one league source told us late Monday night, one of the rumors making the rounds is that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has promised Fisher the job once current coach Bill Parcells leaves. There's also talk that Fisher has spoken informally with potential candidates to join him in Dallas.

The only potential glitch? The Titans hold a 2007 option on Fisher, whose team has been playing better over the past few weeks.

The other potential glitch? The so-called "Rooney Rule," which prevents a team from hiring a head coach without interviewing at least one minority candidate. Jones once took advantage of a loophole to the rule by conducting a phone interview of Dennis Green. Since then, the rule has been modified to require face-to-face interviews.

Fisher has been with the Tennessee Titans since they were the Houston Oilers. He has the second-longest tenure among current NFL coaches with the same team, trailing only Bill Cowher of the Steelers.

Showing that Fisher can beat the Redskins with inferior talent likely didn't diminish the veteran coach in Jones' eyes, if the rumors are accurate. Likewise, the possible arrival of Fisher in Big D makes the fact that he fell all over himself to apologize after defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth applied the cheese grater to the face of Cowboys center Andre Gurode even more understandable.

Stay tuned. We're not reporting it's going to happen. We're just sharing one of the rumors that definitely is working its way through the NFL grapevine.

this should be interesting.

What Parcells needs is a new offensive gameplan

Someone's 2 year old little brother could guess what he's going to call.

if Romo shows Bill he can play at this level as a top QB he might come back for another year, but if its a wasted season in next few weeks this could be his last year in Dallas.

why would anyone (who has an NFL job already) want to coach the Cowboys?

As much as people like to make fun of Jerry, he really is respected by coach types. He is an owner that is involved, but he's also an owner that will do what ever it takes to win. That's all a coach wants is resources.

Fisher would probably be the best choice.

Jones gets way too involved, thats the reason Jimmy Johnson left, and he fired Landry... he needs to let the coaches do what they do, thats how it works. if he wants to coach so bad why waste money on a symbol?? just appoint yourself head coach that way we can get mad at him instead of the coach.

Jones would probably do no worse than the hasbeen "coaching" now.

As much as I like the Boys, and I know Fisher is a great coach, and would like to see him as the next coach after Parcells, I really don't see him leaving Tennessee. Then again, I never thought Parcells would coach the Cowboys either.

"any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employment with that club or with the NFL."

If this article is true the Cowboys are already guilty of Tampering.

It's one thing for Jerry to recruit him and try to talk him into coming to Dallas. Its another to say....hey...the jobs yours when you want it.

all this Cowboys talk and i dont hardly ever see anything about Jones as the Gm and how that is NOT ever gonna work. It doesnt matter if you have Jesus Christ coaching if Jerry Jones has the final say in draft picks and free agent signings Dallas will suck.

All this talk about QBs, coaches, & offensive game plans, etc. - what Dallas really needs is a better offensive line that can protect & open holes to run the football.

Maybe some of the $25 million spent on "TO the egomaniac" could have been better served to upgrade the O-line?

As long as Jerry Jones fancies himself as the coach/GM/owner, Dallas will struggle to win it all. His act is tired, on the sidelines, etc. Do you think Bill Parcells has forgotten how to coach? The man can be a bully & jerk, but he has rings to prove his worth on the sidelines. The man can coach football. And Jerry undermined his coach yesterday with his quotes about the QB situation. I think Parcells will leave after this year.

That being said, with that O-line Romo is the best choice for now. And it also means Dallas is going nowhere fast this year with a 1st year starter out of D1-AA Eastern Illinois. He has mobility & some ability, but he will be exposed & need time to develop. He will make big mistakes learning on the job.
