1. Cuero (8-0, 29-3A)
2. Wimberley (6-1, 25-3A)
3. Hondo (7-0, 28-3A)
4. Rio Hondo (8-0, 32-3A)
5. Devine (8-0, 28-3A)
6. Ingleside (6-1, 30-3A)
7. Orange Grove (7-0, 30-3A)
8. Llano (5-2, 25-3A)
9. South San Antonio (5-2, 26-3A)
10. Yoakum (3-4, 29-3A)
11. LaVernia (5-2, 27-3A)
12. Medina Valley (5-2, 27-3A)
13. Hidalgo (4-3, 32-3A)
14. Sinton (2-5, 30-3A)
15. Port Isabel (5-2, 32-3A)
Notes:
-I noticed something crazy while looking through the district standings. In all of Region IV, only District 30 carries six teams. With the exception of District 25 (which only has four teams), everyone else is in a five-team district. Compare that to Region II (only one five-team district, one eight-team district, everyone else has six teams) and Region III (THREE eight-team districts, only one five-team district, everyone else has six) and you realize how much depth Region IV lacks. Approximately 1/3 of the playoff teams in the Region could conceivably go into the postseason with a losing record.
-I didn't realize how good South San was until I checked out their schedule. Don't know what happened against Sabinal, but they've hung in with, and beaten, a few 4A schools that Dave predicted to make the playoffs. You want a darkhorse in R4, there's your Huckleberry.
-Look at Yoakum's schedule and you can't help but think the same thing. Losses to a quietly powerful LaGrange squad (33-21 loss), a 4A Port Lavaca-Calhoun team that's been tearing up its opponents and is in the middle of a battle for their district crown (21-7 loss), a ranked 2A team and the top-ranked 3A team.
