Hmm

Guy from Cuero nominates a player from Cuero, and gets a 2nd and 3rd from two more Cuero fans.....

A Port Isabel fan nominates a player from Rio Hondo, 2nd comes from a Rio Hondo fan (naturally) but the 3rd comes from a Raymondville fan.

Didn't Injuredinmelee say it was ok NOT to be a homer? Why can't the Cuero guys get it?

Hmmm, injured said it's "OKAY" not to be a homer, not "Don't be a homer" ha...

besides that, I wanna know who had the biggest game in the CLOSEST game...

I will say that Fabian stepped up big Friday night, but I wannt know who made the efforts in some close games as always...

it's be bad to see one guy rush for 165 yards in a runaway win over a guy who rushed for 165 yards in a nail-biter...

Gonzales' Francisco Cortez had two carries, a two yarder and a 70 yard TD in the 4th quarter of their game against Palacios to make the score 21-7 Gonzales... Final was 28-14...

Gonzales' QB Jacob Bird was 11-15 passing in that game with a 15-yard TD pass and a 1 yard TD-run (but they didn't give the damn stats, freakin' Victoria Advocate, this week's Saturday Sports section had no box scores or anything)...

The Gonzales-Palacios game was the ONLY other 3A Region 4 game covered by the Victoria Advocate this week, so Cuero fans really aren't gunna know much else but Fabian Olguin goin' Ape-chit on Yoakum in a closer than expected game...

plus, homers are usually the only ones with insight on what a certain player from their team did... without the homer nominations, you might not know that so-and-so from their team did a great job...

How about a kid that rushed for 250 yards against a defense that allows 210 ypg?

sounds damn good to me... all I'm saying here is don't expect me to know about it when I don't have the stats...

I typically vote for the players who came up big in the biggest games. I was just looking through the SA Express-News site and thought this guy deserves the nomination as much as anyone for a huge effort in a huge game.

Luling upsets Bandera 20-17 in OT

Johnathan Lugo, Luling RB -- 23 carries and 1 reception for 152 total yards (123 on the ground) and 2 TDs, 5.35 YPC

You could also go with Bandera QB Brett Hicks in the same game:

Hicks -- 15-22 for 279 yards and 2 TD's.... 35-yd FG

I'll see if I can't find another few that had outstanding individual efforts in pivotal games.

Pleasanton over Somerset 35-20 (Maybe the most important game in the 27-3A race)

Niko Salinas, Pleasanton QB -- 20 carries, 120 yards... 13-18-141 passing... 258 total yards (unless he returned kicks, too) and 2 TDs

Sinton over CC West Oso 35-21

QB Wes Ring went 7-9 for 117 yards passing and 2 TDs and 13-99 rushing

Still, my vote goes to Lugo of Luling

Here ya go. It is the newspaper article from Saturday. And this was 32-3A's big game between almost mirror image teams. The best offense (Hidalgo 416 ypg) against the best defense (RH 170 ypg) and the second best offense (RH 414 ypg) against the third defense (Hidalgo 208 ypg).

ANyways . . . here is the link (http://www.valleymorningstar.com/articles/2006/10/22/sports/7_saturday/sports1.txt)
