The District 21 race is getting very interesting in the battle for the playoffs and positioning. WO-S (7-0 overall) sits in the lead with 4-0 district record. Tied for 2nd are Bridge City, Kirbyville and Silsbee, all with 5-2 overall record and 3-1 district records.

Kirbyville Wildcats will be traveling to Bridge City to play the Cardinals. The Wildcats' losses come to Carthage and WO-S, while the Cardinals' losses are to Lumberton (4A) and Silsbee. This game could go down to the wire as both teams jockey for seeding.

Thoughts? Predictions?

Bridge City will be going into this game healthy. The defense has finally started to gel for the Cardinals and I look for them to edge out Kirbyville. This Kirbyville team is by far no slouch so the domination of the series by Bridge City I don't think will be a factor. Kirbyville traditionally says every year how they will smoke Bridge City and Bridge City puts a hurting on them. However, I think the Cardinals will have their hands full this year. This one should actually be close.

Bridge City 24
Kirbyville 21

Kirbyville takes this one fairly convincingly. I'll take the Cats by 14.

The Cardinals have been swarmed all year by Injury bugs, about like Southeast Texas mosquitos, except more deadly to play-off contending teams. Someone brought in a can of Yard-Gard or something - The cardinals are more healthy this week than at any point since week 1, hence their poor start and performance. The injuries have plagued the starting line-up on both sides of the ball. Now that we are getting healthy and getting our starters back in the line-up, things are beginning to turn around.

Kirbyville has a lot of talent and speed at skill positions this year. They are relatively young, but make up for it with speed. This is probably the best team Kirbyville has fielded in the last several years.

BC has "owned" Kirbyville in the recent past, but I think that goes out the window this year. This will be a tough, hard fought game, start to finish, which will play into BC's hands - 6 out of 7 of BC's games this year have been determined in the 4th quarter, and 5 of those 6 in the last 6:00.

Hopefully with Bridge City all healthy now the defense will really step up. We will have to shut down that Kirbyville runningback to win this game. Of course, I don't think Kirbyville will have any answers for Dishon. Bridge City I think will be 3 touchdowns or better on offense against them no matter what. Kirbyville is giving up quite a few points on defense. They have not held a single team under double digits all year and that is to include winless Cleveland. Kirbyville is averaging giving up 25 points to their opponents. I see Bridge City at least hitting this average of points given up. Kirbyville is putting up some good numbers on offense so if we can shut them down I see us coming out on top.

The home field may give us a little advantage just because so much is riding on this game and the stands will be packed. I will be curious to see what our game plan will be to stifle the Kirbyville running attack.

Simple....if you bring good luck sit on the BC side. If you bring bad luck then there is a whole row for you on the Kirbyville side.

What are game conditions suppossed to be like? I heard the field will be sloppy. This could really turn into a low scoring game.

I REALLY don't expect it to be that bad. I was on the sidelines last Thursday for the Fish and JV games, after ALL the rain from Monday, and more showers on Thursday morning, and it really wasn't that bad. Even after all the players had walked up and down the sideline, it wasn't a 1/2" of slop, rather it was just walked-down, wet grass. So unless it is raining DURING the game, the field should be OK - WET, but OK.

Heck, Orangefields' field was WET, but it wasn't sloppy either. Their jerseys were stained from dirty water, but not really that muddy.

I think we'll be OK.

You talk about a wet field Friday night. It will be a slop. 6" of rain has fallen in this area.

As of this time......3.34 inches have fallen at BCHS via the Middle School's weatherbug station

Well, based off of this much rain in the area I will have to readjust my prediction. I think this will turn into a low scoring game.

Bridge City 14
Kirbyville 07

I don't see anyone kicking fieldgoals in this so I think it will be a 7 point differential. Turnovers will well decide this one. If you can hang on to the ball I think you come out a winner in this one.

Final.

Big win for the wildcats.

BC had their chances in this game and couldn't captilize on the Wildcat turnovers. BC's defense couldn't shut down the Wildcats as they ran up the middle on BC. Kirbyville scored late in the game to secure the win. Congrats to the Wildcats. This was a well deserved win for the cats.

Yes, everytime they got in the 20 they would somehow shoot themself in the foot. However, Kville was just gunning it down their throat and that is the real reason they lost.
