Region II Game of the Week (8): Kennedale @ West

Kennedale Wildcats will be in West this week to take on the Trojans for this District 12 game.

The Wildcats are currently 2-0 in district play, and with pre-district losses to Everman (4A) and Robinson, has a 5-2 overall record. Can they continue the district streak and defeat West at home?

The Trojans have a 1-1 district record and are also 5-2 overall, with their losses coming to McGregor (2A) and last night to Glen Rose. A win will get them one step closer to making the playoffs. Can they pull it off?

Thoughts? Predictions?

Rick Wolf has done a remarkable job though in turning the Trojans football program around. Kennedale should still win this one by a pretty comfortable margin even though the game is at West. If you're going to "The Hilton" from Kennedale you better get there early to get a seat because it's a small stadium. A longtime Gatesville assistant coach, Danny Loerwald, called it that when we went there and Wildcat fans will see why when they get to the field.

In 2001 we had to leave at halftime due to a tornado that had touched down not that far from the field in West. I think we beat the tornado out of town by about 5 minutes! At that time I was broadcasting games with Johnny Wheeler and I don't think I ever saw him move so fast. Anyone who knows him knows he's a pretty big guy, but he sure did move like a running back that night! In 2003 I went over there again for a game and the wonderful guy at the gate actually charged my cameraman admission to the game. Boy it was a fun halftime having to tell that guy why he owed my cameraman his five dollars back!

The name of the town is West. It's right off I-35 about 15 miles south of Hillsboro. Once you see the Czech Bakery (Their food is good anytime of day!) you know you're in West.

If West has a small stadium, is that why all their games except Kennedale is on the road? It's been a long, long time since I've been to West. I think I'll stop in downtown and have some of that Czech food before the game.

WEST WINS THIS YEAR CAME FROM 2A AND WEAK 3A BUT THEY WERE STILL WINS .WEST IS PLAYING A LOT BETTER BUT I THINK THAT IF THEY START PLAYING BETTER COMPETION IN NON DISTRICT IT WILL HELP THEM IN THE BIG GAMES .THE COACH HAS THE BOYS PLAYING VERY WELL NOW AND I THINK THEY COULD BLOW KENNEDALE OUT .WEST BY 21

I think Kennedale wins this game 35-14. West usually plays pretty tough at the Hilton, but Kennedale is a bit too strong for them this year.

West played very well I thought.Kennedale may have taken them a little lightly.The teams were pretty equal however ,I was not impressed with the Kennedale offense .Dont know how deep either of these teams will go in playoffs.The Kennedale band was very good .The school has really improved the last few years.

have to go with KHS saw them play last year. EArly on I was exspecting them to have a break out year
