I think the winner of this game will be served up - with all the fixins' - to a 3-3a or 4-3a playoff team in round two. Try not to run it up on 'em.

Eagles hope to bounce back quickly
1-3A showdown could be an elimination game

Thanks to the Monahans Loboes, both the Clint Lions and the Pecos Eagles have bad tastes in their mouths.
Monahans shut out Pecos 52-0 on Oct. 6 in the District 1-3A opener for both teams and then the Eagles went into their bye week. Clint got its first taste of Permian football in several years last week, losing 48-6 to the Loboes.
At 7:30 tonight, Clint (6-1 overall, 2-1 district) visits Pecos (3-3, 1-1) in what could be a bid for a playoff spot in District 1-3A.
“We are not really concerned; coming down from 4A every game we had was tough and was a big game and we pretty much had to win,” Clint head coach Rosvel Martinez said. “Permian Basin football is always going to be better than some of the teams you see up here, so hopefully it won’t get us down that we are playing these teams.”
With Monahans, Fort Stockton, Pecos and Clint battling for three playoff spots, the loser of tonight’s game will have to run the table to have a shot at the postseason.
“We know this is pretty much a needed win for us,” Pecos head coach Chris Henson said. “We circled this game as one of the biggest games of the season.
“There has been a lot of talk about it. The kids are confident going in and playing them.”
The Lions could be at a disadvantage since they will be making their first trip this far east since 2000 when they played at Pecos.
“That is what concerns us,” Martinez said. “We are trying to do whatever we can to help it out. We will try to make some stops so we can get out and walk around a bit.”
The Lions plan to leave Clint at 11 a.m. MST and will stop near Van Horn to stretch their legs and try to get loose for the game.
Once they arrive in Pecos, the Lions know they will have to be ready to stop the Permian Basin’s leading rusher in Luis Ortega.
Ortega was shut down by Monahans, finishing with 63 yards on 24 carries, but he still has 1,218 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.
“That is their main guy there,” Martinez said. “It is going to come down to who can stop who because I think some points will be scored.”
The Eagles will have to play solid assignment football to stop the Clint wishbone offense from running wild as Monahans’ offense did on the Eagles two weeks ago.
“The big thing going into an option team is assignment defense and we’ve had two weeks to work on it,” Henson said. “We feel pretty confident in our defensive scheme.”
But Henson knows his team’s chances start and stop with Ortega.
“(Ortega) needs to have a big game,” Henson said. “We have been working on our play-action pass and we need (Ortega) to set that up for us. That is something that should be big for us come (tonight).”
