It might be too early for the exact match ups in the first round, but I think it is close. I would also bet that both the D1 and D2 State Champs will come from the Top 10 Massey has listed...probably the Top 5.....we shall see!

of these projections...here are my thoughts on the "games to watch"

Division 1
Abilene Wylie vs Decatur - just look back to their State Quarterfinal matchup in 2004 if anybody thinks Decatur needs any extra motivation going into this game.

Gilmer vs Liberty-Eylau - many thought this could be a huge trap game for the Buckeyes. With Middlebrooks out at L-E though it has definitely changed things. Any word on if he will be back this year? I can't remember what his injury was.

Palestine vs Carthage - rumor is that AP is going to use this game as a rehab start before heading back up to the show in Norman! ;)

Gonzales vs Ingleside - everybody in D1's favorite team (Gonzales) vs one of my closet teams (Ingleside) thanks to the many great posters from this fine community.

Division 2
Clint vs BYE - it's an absolute travesty that a team as bad as this will make the 2nd round of the state playoffs. I'm pulling hard for the BYE to make a stand.

Sweetwater vs Argyle - Sweetwater is GOOD! ;)...in case you missed the memo. Argyle, a state finalist in 2A D1 last year, has quietly been putting together a solid season and definitely has the ability to pull the upset of the 1st round in this game. That...and they've been my darkhorse team since they moved up! ;)

Breckenridge vs Sanger - Another chance for Breck to prove that their record isn't a joke and they can compete with the quality programs...and maybe even pull out a W. However, until the Buckaroos do get a quality win (they'll have chances vs Wylie and Sweetwater in district) then it's hard to consider their 5-1 record as legit.

Celina vs Commerce - It sure would have been fun to see these two powerhouses play each other back in the late 90's. Celina is down this year compared to last year's squad and Commerce is starting to turn things around. It won't matter...Celina still wins this one going away.

Robinson vs Cameron Yoe - the biggest band in 3A (Robinson) vs one of the most overhyped programs in 3A (Yoe). No disrespect to Yoe...but they are in a similar boat as Breckenridge. They can win plenty of games but until they start winning the big games and prove that they belong...it's hard to put too much stock in them.

Cuero vs Sinton - Round 1 went to Cuero by the score on 29-0 so while this game won't exactly stick out as the game to watch...it will certainly be a game to be at if you are a card carrying downlow member. State championship games aside, this game is arguably the largest gathering of 3ADL members anywhere in the state.

PI has already beaten La Feria in 32-3A so I'm not sold on LF making the playoffs...

I wouldnt put to much stock in it because they don't even have the attendance #'s right which messes up D1 & D2.

For instance if it's Brownsboro, Van and Canton which make the playoffs in D14 then Brownsboro is the D1 Rep. by a large margin. Van can't go D1 unless Bullard was to make the playoffs along with Canton. Athens, Chapel Hill and Brownsboro all have larger #'s.

Middlebrooks is already back and so is LaMichael James and the Leopards seem to have gotten their spots back after losses to Wimberley and Mount Pleasant.

That's good to hear. I thought I heard that he had blown out his knee and was going to be gone for the season. Hopefully they can give Gilmer a good game in the playoffs.
