Speaking of polls and their credibility or lack thereof, I've become aware that USC was actually going for a four peat last year. See below. They had won the Dunkel, Matthews and Sagarin poll in 2002.
Also there were three football national championships for Texas that I had completely forgotten about. 1981, 1977 and 1968.

you also forgot about Texas in 1941 and A&M in 1919.

Texas also was picked by Billingsley in 1914.
