Mt. Vernon Tigers will take on the Pirates of Pittsburg this week in a battle for each to keep their district 16-3A playoff hopes alive.

The Tigers are 1-5, with a win over 3A Mineola. The Pirates are 1-6 with their win coming against 3A Commerce.

To some, this may not seem like GotW material, but with playoff stakes on the line, it could be a battle. Thoughts? Predictions?

(Thanks, kep, for the suggestion.)

(Thanks, kep, for the suggestion.) your job is tough. region 2 is noticeably down this year. nobody wants to see gilmer, or madison or celina be the GOTW every week. i think you guys chose a very good game that could go either way. kudos to the selection committee.

Well, yeah. :p Currently 2 of the 5 sit at 1-0 and 2 at 0-1. Texarkana Pleasant Grove hasn't played a district game, so this game could be crucial to both Mt. Vernon & Pittsburg. (Besides, I have to write something.... ;) )

L-E played Pittsburg Friday night (LE 35-14). Pitt has an excellent, athletic QB who plays hard on both sides of the ball - in fact they have a very small team, and most of the players play all of the time. I haven't seen Mt. Vernon yet, but I believe Atlanta beat them by quite a bit.

There's a guy I play ball with at the gym from Pittsburg so I'll go with his school on this one. :)

This game still has resin on it from scraping it off the bottom of the barrel. Either team could win, and nobody should care. This is a battle of "cellar dwellers". The only thing they're playing for is not finishing dead last in the district.

What the hell.

Mt. Vernon 46
Pittsburg 41
