Texas needs to throw the ball down the field a few times. All these 3 yard outs aren't going to get it done. D is getting worn out after all the 3 and outs offense is putting up. They look a step slower than Mobihoma.

it's like Mack doesn't want to put Colt in a position where something bad could happen. That's fine but you're gonna lose playing that way. Let him through the ball. He's gonna make mistakes, but he'll never be worth a darn if he doesn't.

Phil C

I think UT would still have won this game even without the close ofiicial's call on the pass play. It would have been a much closer contest---but I think the 'Horns are definitely the better team this year. Way to go 'Horns--Hook 'Em.

My personal opinion---I didn't particulliarly care for that shot....it was a kid, not an adult. Besides, I think that kid was probably crying because he wanted to go home or wanted some $5.00 nachos. Don't forget that UT fans hurt badly when the 'Horns lose , too.

From the Dallas Morning News Article Today:
"They're physical, but I don't think they're quick," Robinson said of UT's defensive line. "We're strong, physical and quick, and we play all four quarters. So we're going to see what they've got for all four quarters."

"Brown thought offensive coordinator Greg Davis was being too conservative with McCoy, so he told him at halftime to let the kid loose. McCoy responded with his longest play yet on his first snap of the third quarter and built from there."

We just rolled in from Dallas. Although I've grown up on the Sooners, I must tip my hat to Texas. I thought OU was better and was wrong. Penalties and turnovers will beat you just about every time. Texas played a very poised and confident game. They reminded me of how OU was playing up until last year.
Now that McCoy has apparently secured the QB position, I wonder if Texas will be able to keep the quarterbacks coming and keep the ones they have in the fold? It wil be interesting to see.
Oh, and the Texas fans were pretty kind to us this year at the Cotton Bowl. I'm sure they'll enjoy sitting in the South end next year.

Ok. Give me one piece of evidence to show that Chiles and Brantley don't want to come play for the Horns.

They'll both redshirt which means they won't have to play until '08. Chiles is a great QB, but he's so athletic he can play almost anywhere on the field. Brantley is from Florida and he supposedly loves Mack to death so I don't see him jumping ship all of a sudden to go play from an OU program that is circling the drain.

So. . .in '08 Colt will technically be a Junior. That means either Chiles or Brantley, whoever wins out will get a couple of years in at QB once Colt leaves if Colt stays the starter during all that time.

You have to realize how hot Texas is right now. Mack is the "it" coach for sure in the Big 12 and probably in the entire country, and our program has never been better. We've got a ton of cash rolling in and it's being spent on things like Godzillatron and even better facilities. We've got some of the best assistant coaches around and the school itself is top-notch. That's why our recruiting classes have gone from really great to stellar the past two years.

So, Stoops is competing with all that PLUS the loss of his brother who is looking more and more like he was the real mastermind behind OU's schemes. . .PLUS the looming threat of the NCAA and major sanctions being leveled against the Sooner football program. Do parents really want to send their kids up to that kind of situation? Stoops has gotten so desperate that he was calling Sam Keller every 5 minutes when he learned that Keller was leaving Arizona State. Keller picked Nebraska. . .

So, if there is any wishful thinking going on it's by the Sooners.

I think it's more than the fact that his brother left. He hasn't won a ton of games at Arizona. Anyway, I wouldn't expect anyone from UT to transfer to OU. What I was asking is, will a highly recruited quarterback be patient and wait for his chance to start. Some, not all, super star recruits want it all now, and do not want to wait for their time. I agree, Texas is a hot team now. Oh, there are no major sanctions coming to OU. That information is just false.

One other factor West is that Colt is starting to look very good. If he keeps improving and doing good he may decided to turn pro when he is a junior - maybe even earlier. That could be another factor to consider.

Mack has been really good at getting early verbal commitments and holding on to most of them. This time of year he is almost always leading nation in recruiting.
Some experts said last yr after UT won NC, Mack may have been able to get a few more of the uncommitted 5 star recruits, but he didn't have any more scholarships to offer. This is just his recruiting style.
There are a LOT of five star recruits that haven't verbally committed and many won't till much later.
Possible good news for aggies. Rivals did say that Terrance Tolliver (#10 ranked recruit in nation) from Hempstead didn't have A&M on his 5 school list, but has made an unofficial visit there (weekend of tech game) and apparently liked the school.

WestTXLonghorn
10-09-2006, 01:55 PM
Terrance Toliver is kind of a joke in my mind. I saw a quote where he said he didn't want to come to Texas because "they already have a lot of superstars there." In other words, he wants to be the star of the show and he knows Mack doesn't put up with that nonsense.

In regards to the QB situation. I agree, there definitely could be some QBs wanting to transfer. If Colt holds on to the starting job you have to think Sherrod and Jevan will at least consider leaving. However, Mack has been in this situation before. Chance Mock was a big time recruit and he would have been a great QB, he just happened to be stuck at UT when Vince was. Applewhite and Simms, etc. So, while we might have a QB jump ship. . .we'll still be loaded at that position.

Also. . .what makes you think major sanctions aren't going to come down on OU? Look at the Reggie Bush scandal. Not all the facts come out immediately. Stoops threw two of his players on the chopping block to save the rest of his team (because let's face facts. . .40 some odd Sooners worked at that place and you're telling me only the QB and some no-name O-Lineman were getting paid and not Peterson and Rufus Alexander?). I don't think the NCAA will do any investigative work on this issue because they're pansies and don't like hurting their rep and income from big name schools. However, like in the Bush case, an outside entity could do some fact finding and blow some things open which would force the NCAA to act. I'm not trying to start a fight here, just saying it is still a possibility.

However, let's say that OU doesn't face ANY sanctions whatsoever. It still looks really bad for Stoops that all this is going on under his nose and he has no clue. So, if we want to believe he had no idea this stuff was going on, that makes him one of the biggest fools in the world, right? To not be keeping an eye on your starting QB who's already had other problems with breaking rules? So. . .if you're the parent of a recruit, do you want to be sending your kid to Oklahoma where the coach doesn't seem to have a clue what's going on and where your kid could ruin his chances at an NFL career?

And before anyone says it. . .yeah, Texas has had problems with kids screwing up too. No doubt. However, Mack doesn't blame it all on the players and he disciplines them. Stoops let Dvoracek back on the team after he raped a girl and beat his roommate into a coma with a baseball bat.

Anyway, I'm getting too riled up. Nice to get pissed about stuff to take my mind off of other things but no need to kick the Sooners when they're down. I like UT's situation and I think we'll be fine for the forseeable future.

g$$
10-09-2006, 04:26 PM
Wow, Jevan Snead is a true freshman & he's already out of the mix for the foreseeable future? I agree McCoy has done well, but Snead should have been redshirting anyway had he not been forced into the #2 role. McCoy has done a good job of managing the game & avoiding big turnovers since the Ohio St. game. But lots of stuff can happen over the course of a career. He threw for 108 yds. Sat., but he is not being asked yet to be the man. Will he be that guy in time? Time will tell.

I think Chiles is a heck of an athlete & will play another position, Snead will develop as a QB, & the Brantley kid may end up somewhere else. Texas is in a great position recruiting no doubt. But you can only sign 25 each year.

I hadn't seen that about the quote. Probably correct. I know Texas is not listed among schools recruiting him.
Toliver supposedly wowed a lot of people at some camp in Florida over summer and his stock went way up.
He played against Bellville last year in 3A. He's good, but hard to believe he's top ten in nation. Playing in 2A now.
Not sure what will happen with QBs at UT. If they're good, they usually have enough confidence to feel they can win the position, so I don't really have any reason to doubt the incoming recruits won't stick with their verbal commitment. As far as what happens with those already on campus and the new ones year or two down road hard to say.

LAST YEAR WHEN THE BULLS PLAYED THE CATS I CANT REMEMBER TOLIVER CATCHING A SINGLE PASS. HE'S NOT A PLAYMAKER IN MY BOOK. I CANT BELIEVE HE'S IN THE TOP 10 AS WELL.

The Cameron people will tell you that Derrick Evans was better than Tolliver which I believe is true. The only thing that has Tolliver being in the top 10 in the nation is this...

6'4
185 lbs.
4.47 forty
29" Vertical

The staff is aware of Mr. Tolliver. In fact, I believe he attended a camp or Junior Day here. They chose to go a different direction. We shall see.

All I can really say is, just look at the kids recently who have snubbed Texas and gone to other schools.

Bomar- Snubbed Texas and went to OU. Now plays D-2 ball for the SHSU Bearkats.

Ryan Perilloux- Played around with Mack and then tried to convince other recruits not to go to Texas and instead go with him to LSU. Will probably never see the field and is currently #3 on the depth chart.

In regards to Snead, yeah, for the forseeable future he's not a threat to jump ship and will get his chance. He'll have plenty of time during the offseason to get better and compete with Colt for the job next year. If he can't beat out Colt then he can be a great back-up and or he could jet. Either way we're stocked at the QB position for awhile and it's only going to get better on all recruiting fronts for us. Brantley won't be going anywhere else. If you've kept up with the recruiting process with this kid you'd know he's deadset on the Horns. Things can always change but if there was ever a solid verbal, this guy is it.

Bull19, Tolliver caught a few passes last year vs. Bellville including one sick run and catch that he took to the house from about 40 yards out.

Rockdale people are being 100% homers if they think Evans was/is as good as Tolliver.
