Tarleton softball inks three
Dec. 5, 2003
Tarleton State Head Softball Coach Julie Mata has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2004-05 school year.
Amy Braquet, Kasi Dobbs and Kym Wade took advantage of the early signing period to join the TexAnn softball team.
"We feel like this was one of the best early signing periods since we have been here," Mata said.
Dobbs, a 5-3 pitcher, is a Decatur High School graduate. She was named the Most Valuable Player in her district in 2003 and was named All-County Player of the Year. She was the MVP of the district in 2002, and she has been named TGCA First Team All-State. In 2001, she was named All-County Newcomer of the Year. She is also a Gold Star Student. In 2003, she recorded a .71 ERA, 280 strikeouts and a 23-4 record. Mata believed she is a strong all-around player that should be a key figure in the pitcher's circle for several years.
"We have been wanting her to come play for us for a couple of years now," Mata said. "She has been one of the prominent names out there as far as dominant pitchers. We are hoping she'll step into the roll Carla Geeslin has filled the last four years. She also hits the ball very well, and we believe she will be an asset to our lineup."
