That year Army came into the game undefeated and untied and the defending national champion. Navy game into the game ranked No. 2 even though they had a tie with Notre Dame (a team that Army beat). This game was to be for the national championship and was the last game of the year for these giants. The game was the first game for these teams after WW2. Army won 32 to 13 in a thriller thus cinching the National Championship for that year.
