You can sense a little reality every now and then, but I think they are laying it on a little thick for entertainment's sake. I have always hated non-Texans attempting a genuine Texas accent. Tommy Lee Jones they ain't.

Thoughts on the first episode?

MagicMan
10-03-2006, 07:58 PM
the game was the biggest let down. there was no emotion to it. the fans are too quiet. the plays are dumb. its amazing how 30 yards to win changes to 70 yards.

Not totally realistic. Several bad references to rules (player went out of bounds and the anouncer said the clock would start once the chains were set and they did but they should not have). Also on the first touchdown, the player spiked the ball over his head (penalty).

Actually, nothing was true in Varsity Blues.

In the Titans, the movie was based on a true story but the movie did not follow it exactly. Do you know for sure that it really happened in real life?

yes..watch the commentary of Remember the Titans it is the tww real life coaches..most of the stuff that happened was true..just not always in place..the reverse for a TD was in a semi-final game..and the guy getting hurt I THINK happend after the state champ game

And I never said anything from Varsity Blues was true

Hollywierd never disappoints. It was a cheap shot to have the starting qb suffer every parents nightmare, a c-spine injury. Great, now 20 million moms will not let their sons play football. Good for soccer, but not for football.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you said Varsity Blues was based on a true story.

In the Titans, the movie changed a lot of things for Hollywood. I know QB Ronnie Bass was a two year starter, but couldn't find out if it was because of an injury. Here's a link to the original Titans. www.71originaltitans.com/faqs.html

I looked at the T.C. Williams roster, and the biggest kid I could find on the team was six foot one two thirty nine. I guess Hollywood invented the big fat lineman.:D

He was also in Homefront. I loved that show. It did not last, nothing good ever does.

Some of the players need to work on their Texas accents. One of those throws was perfect and i've never seen a reciever miss more purposely than that. It bounced straight off his shoulder pads. Now i know there are some bad recievers but that was like a 10 yard route and they made it look ridiculous. I also noticed too that the HC's wife was the same. An old fat guy was the same too somewhere in there. Over all i think its another crappy football creation that will make the northerners wanna play more.

I thought it was ok. But on the final play to win the game, the qb finds a wide open receiver BEHIND everyone with no defensive backs in sight. Ahead 24-21, last play, time running out, desperation pass & the guy gets behind everybody. Hollywood I guess.

Wonder if Westlake got any $$ for being the other team, uniforms & all?

You must not have seen some of the drops that Tech had against TCU. They were very similar to those in FNL! :(

Speaking of Odessa, what has happened to Permian? Are the kids zoned differently now? What has changed besides coaches thru the years? I have heard different stories & theories, so if you live out there & know please tell. Have they won a game this year?

Just flat out not the same program. Times have changed for sure. The MoJo used to be known coast to coast. Now SLC has taken the reigns. SLC doesn't have a book or movie yet though!
