Churchill pair named All-Americans

Coming off a big win over district rival Converse Judson, life seemingly couldn't get any better for San Antonio Churchill quarterback Nick Fanuzzi or tight end Ian Harris. But it did.

Monday afternoon, in a pep rally before the seniors' peers, Fanuzzi and Harris became the first two Texans officially named U.S. Army All-Americans.

The All-American process starts with 400 nominations from the top prep football players from coast-to-coast. The Army and Bowl representatives then kickoff their nationwide selection tour, picking the players for the All-American Bowl.

This classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 11:00 a.m. and will feature the nation’s top 80 high school football athletes.

Since its inception, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been a key launching pad for America’s future college and NFL stars. Fanuzzi and Harris join the likes of Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Brady Quinn and Adrian Peterson, all who made their national debuts as U.S. Army All-Americans.

The 2006 selections to the All-American Bowl:

* Ballou (Washington D.C.) DT Marvin Austin, an uncommitted pledge rated the No. 1 prospect in the country by Scout.com;
* SA Churchill QB Nick Fanuzzi, an early commitment to Miami;
* SA Churchill TE Ian Harris, a Nebraska pledge;
* Pittsburgh Central Catholic OL Stefen Wisniewski, an uncommited prospect looking at Penn State, Michigan and BC;
* Crenshaw (Los Angeles) DT Brian Price, an early UCLA pledge;
* Oaks Christian (Westlake, Calif.) RB Marc Tyler, who will join teammate Jimmy Clausen in the game;
* Oaks Christian (Westlake, Calif.) QB Jimmy Clausen, a Notre Dame commit rated as the top QB in the nation :D:D:D
