From the 2007 class, Kody Emmert is a pretty solid choice. There may be one or two more, I'm not sure.

Ryan Uekert(sp?) would be a great Div. 1 linebacker at least. Trent is looking like a good pick to play there, too. :)

WO-S:
Seniors Earl Thomas (UT) and Jacoby Franks (TX Tech) have committed verbally. QB Andre Bevil and WR/DB Dominique Rhodes are other D1 prospects.
Junior RB Depauldrick Garrett is a very strong D1 possibility also.

I know these kids have some offers out there:

Jared Flannel, RB/DB Columbia HS (explosive athlete, still not playing due to stress fracture in foot suffered almost a year ago)
**included on many Texas Top 100 Lists at beginning of year

Ricky "Tank" Carder, LB/K Sweeny HS (fine athlete in 3 sports)
Colby Lowrie, OL Sweeny HS (big frame & good feet)

Jamail Shelton, WR/ATH Wharton HS (athletic & productive)

...there may be others, but these I know for sure.

I dont know about Cobb as a D1 QB, maybe? But I think he could make a great D1 tight end.

Michael Buse from Wimberley has a KU offer on the table for running back, he is also trying to get on with A&M as a defensive back, but thats still a question. Many other schools showing interest, but no offers. Receiver Len Thompson might get an offer too.

I saw the Buse kid from Wimberley last year against WOS in Katy. He was impressive & much faster than some may think. WOS is known for their team speed (Beasley, Thomas, etc.) every year, & I remember him running at will all night as they blew WOS out. Once he took a hand-off & burst straight down the middle of the field (about 50 yds.) & even the kids w/ an angle could not catch him. I think whoever gets him will be happy about it in the end. Kid can play.

Thank you g$$!! What you said about Buse is very true. But hey, he's my nephew, so maybe I am biased!

Shawnbrey is going to A&M. CB Larry Johnson could follow him there or go to Nebraska as I understand it.

Junior CB Greg Jordan should get a D1 Scholarship next season and if Sophomore DT Steve Richards (6'5" 265) winds up being as good as his coaches think he is going to be then he'll be getting a ride as well in 2 years to the college of his choice.

The only other one I can think of that could get a D1 offer this year would be TE Chris Mason. He's finally starting to show signs of using his height and size (6'6" 255) to his advantage. Some college will take a chance on him more than likely even though he'll be a bit of a project.

Vernon's Whiteside (RB & DE or LB) is our only probable DI er. Not sure if he will go DI or not. He may go DII. A lot of our kids get recruited to Southeastern Oklahoma.

Maybe North Texas.

Seniors:
Curtis Brown (DB) - Texas verbal
G.J. Kinne (QB) - Baylor verbal
Dominique Buchannon (LB) - Baylor verbal
Jamell Kennedy (WR) - Offers from UTEP, SMU, Indiana

Juniors:
Justin Johnson (RB) - SI.com's #2 Junior recruit in the nation, being recruited by several top programs including Texas and Oklahoma
David Snow (OL) - again, being recruited by several top colleges

These are all that I can remember off the top of my head this late. I'll check tomorrow about others and where. I believe there are possibly 4 more that could go D-I.

Once you get past D1-A & D1-AA, scholarships are not full rides. In fact, most D3 kids are on academic scholarships or financial need. But every little bit helps. Full scholarships are called "head count" sports (like football, basketball, etc.).

The biggest inequity is baseball where D1 schools get 11.7 scholarships for the whole team (softball gets more). This is related to Title IX Gender Equity & it is unfair. If you get 25-40% in baseball then it is a great scholarship (most get books). Most schools have 25-35 guys on the roster, so you do the math. The coach recruiting you will come to visit with a calculator in hand. That is why many kids go straight to pro ball or even juco & then pro without having to wait 3 years. And it is also why very few minorities play college baseball. Sad but true. College baseball misses out on many fine athletes.

Hey Mac77 - that's good to hear about the WC boys. I hope Flannel can get well & show his stuff again. He can wait one more week though!! Take care.

i wonder how some teams lose in 3a down with all the athletes they have every year. i guess heart, tradition, coaching, intangibles, etc... have alot more to do with it than we think sometime. i mean teams having 4 plus d1 signees in 3a, 2a, 1a should win it all 90% of the time but this still doesn't happen. i have seen alot of teams with only small college ball walkons if that beat teams that have multiple guys going to texas, tech, tcu, etc...

even happens in 5a. look at permian back in the day. would not have 1 d1 athlete and could play with anyone.

I think if Flannel shows he is completely healthy, then more offers will roll in before February. Probably a DB in college.
