A friend of mine tried this experiment on a kid at work. The kid didn't believe it would work.

He had the kid swallow 5 mentos and put 5 in his mouth and then he had 30 sec to chug a diet coke. He got about half of it down before it exploded out of his mouth. Made a mess of course. :D
