Player of the week
With his team down by 12 heading into the fourth quarter and in danger of starting the season 0-3, Port Isabel’s Ralph Valdez took matters into his own hands and delivered. The senior running back rushed for 124 yards (202 total) in the final period and scored three touchdowns to propel the Tarpons to a 27-19 come-from-behind win over West Oso. Valdez also had a 12-yard touchdown reception to go along with his two rushing scores-all of which occurred in the fourth quarter.
Ralph also selected as player of the week for the Valley Morning Star.
