Madison RB commits to Texas A&M

10:56 PM CDT on Monday, September 18, 2006

By TODD WILLS / The Dallas Morning News

Madison running back Shawnbrey McNeal said that he has orally committed to Texas A&M.

Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day a recruit in the Class of 2007 can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 7.

McNeal (5-10, 180), No. 14 on SportsDay’s Area Top 100, said he picked the Aggies over TCU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Ole Miss. McNeal has rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries in two games this season.

McNeal, a two-time Class 3A state champion in the 100 meters, said that he also will run track at A&M.

I've never seen him run with a ball in his hands, but I've seen him on a track - he is one fast dude.. :)

he doesnt lose any speed once the pads go on. He is a great runner. I have seen him up close and personal many times. Hard to tackle. He has great vision on the field.

Ad we have to remember that Ole Miss has had some strong National Championship contenders in the past and that Arkansas won the NC in 1964 in at least one poll and probably more if they had decided the NC after the bowls.

I do agree. They both have strong traditions...and Ole Miss does have undoubtedly the most beautiful women of any school...but whicih team in the next 5 years of those schools has a realistic chance to win a national title?

That's a pretty accurate assessment of the kid. His game speed is the same as it is on the track and he doesn't shy away from contact like other RB's that are about his size. There's a kid from A. Maceo that can give a pretty good account of the hit he took from Shawnbrey.

Not real happy to see him choose a 2nd rate place like A&M, but out of his list that's about as good as it'll get. (I'm a UT fan so this is going to be rough cheering for him when he is playing for the 4th best team in the state.) If this kid were playing at a high profile school like SLC, Lufkin, or even Madison's neighborhood rival Lincoln where the offensive staff would've promoted him A LOT more, he'd get to choose from any school he wants. Oh well hopefully Madison's CB Larry Johnson won't follow suit and choose the school where people have that strange affinity for anything that has to do with sheep.

The fans in Arkansas are so much more serious about their Hogs than we are about any team we have here but then again thats because the Hogs are all they have

So I suppose that in your opinion, the herpes blister on Mack Brown's lip during the Ohio St game would be a better coach than Fran!
I'm tellin' y'all! The Aggies are gonna surprise some folks this season. Laugh now Horn fans! I'm not saying the Aggies will beat ya' this year, but they definitely won't be just trying for Bowl eligibility. They'll be playing for Bowl positioning.
