Heard a story this morning that involved an individual that was sent to spy on the opposing teams practice 2 days before a district championship game.

Have any of you guys heard of anything like this before? and if so, did it mean the difference between a win and a loss?

I am a fairly young coach and have never heard of anything like this. Really, the thought of doing this has never even crossed my mind.

There is no such thing as "Spying" :p in football. Only Scouting.

If indeed someone is doing this 2 days before the game, they are spying to late and need to go back to spy school. No good spy in their right minds would just go to the last two practices.

It's not "spying", it's scouting and that's just what you are suppose to do. You go and check out how the other team runs their plays and what kind of guys they are playing with, so you can see what kind of competition you are going to be facing. It's kinda like doing your homework and studying before a big test.

if you don't want people scouting your practices, build an indoor practice field.

Scouting is going to watch a team play a game. Going to watch practice is not scouting and would not be allowed or should not anyway. But the real scouting comes from watching hours and hours of video on the team you are getting ready for.

Wow. Great discussion here guys. What, are you guys in 11th or 12th grade. PPHS fan you obviously aren't involved in High school football. I was serious when I asked if anyone has heard of something like this.

Journalist, I didn't say MY practices were being "scouted". And by the way, you need to learn the difference between spying practice and scouting. Tell'em thunder.

on a serious note yes i have heard of it happening.must coaches know who normally comes to practices and if they see someone parked away from normal crowd they will go talk to them and ask them to leave.also the folks that come to practice are on the watch . especialy rivaly games where people know each other in the towns.
so it happens but it takes lots of guts to do it.

If a team wants to scout another team then do it. have the guts to do it with coaches and send them to watch the practice out in the open..... yeah sure, that would go over just great with the team being watched.. even listening in on what the coaches are telling the players on particular plays. come on now folks. scout the team at games, watch the film on them then do the best you can but there is such a thing as going out of bounds.
