NOTES: Blanton wins Oklahoma's first 100 meter gold in the Big 12. He was fastest out of the blocks and held his lead to the line with a surge in the middle 40 meters of the race.

BLANTON SAID: "I was really motivated before the race and I saw myself winning the whole time. I knew if I could get a good start I would win and I thought I had a good start. I had to keep pumping to finish strong which I was able to do. I didn't worry about my time coming into the race because my only plan was to win. I just wanted to be the Big 12 Champion."

I read on another message board that Blanton has decided to give up football and concentrate solely on track.....is there any truth to this rumor??

I was just looking at the speeds on the 100m...It would appear that Ruben Cantu, Falfarias, and Michael Gauthier, Bridge City would have placed 9th and 10th had they been running in this big time College Meet, based on their State Tournament times. They are just a HS Senior and a Junior.

thats not too unusual ... there are some times at the state meets that will place in college/univ meets every year

To 3afan: It must have been unusual up around DWF, I did not see any times close to that generated up there..

No...the kid from Falfurrias probably would not have made the finals....the guy who got 9th pulled up hurt..thats why he ran a 11.97. The cutoff for making the finals was a 10.61. Cantu ran a 10.73 which would have placed him 16th in the premims....
