There isn't a Texas minimum wage. The National minimum wage is $5.15 per hour.

Actually that is the big debate in Congress this year whether to raise it. 5.15 is hardly liveable but so is 7.00 an hour. However, if they do raise it all goods and services go up for everyone else. It has huge effects in our economy. Most just use it has a political stunt to make it look like they are all for the poor.

Yes, Texas does have one, they merely adopted the Federal minimum.

Effective September 1, 2001, Texas adopted the federal minimum wage rate by reference, raising the Texas Minimum Wage Act's current minimum rate to $5.15 an hour.

Wow I sure didn't know that. I guess the federal is set at 5.15 and then a state can add to it. Thanks for posting that.

aren't some jobs not intended to support a family? My part time gig in High School bagging groceries falls into that category.

We need to lower ours to around the average wage level of China, which is 22 cents an hour.

Otherwise, we will continue to lose jobs to Asia.

This is the way the free market works. Only liberals and Democrats (same thing) are against free markets.

And who asked anyone to have a family? If you can't support one, you shouldn't have started one.

here is a novel idea...lets reduce inflation...instead of increasing the amount of minimum wage. all this is gonna do is cause everyday prices to rise so employers can keep up with the profits and paychecks at the same time. basic idea, ifpeople are making more, we can charge more. it happens. look at the 1990's it was a little slower, but still happened. money disgusts me. our world revolves around it and we have lost site of our values as americans.

Unless things have changed restaurant waiters and waitresses in TX also can be paid less than minimum. Something like 2.65 with the rest of their wages to be made up of tips.

It is still true. But even a worker at Denny's can make a 100 bucks a day in tips. I know a couple of girls who did that. Loved the money.

nothing better than working the beverage cart at a country club. Those girls can make over 200. Old, wealthy, drunk men, best combo

I knew a few girls who made better than 50 G's a year working at TGIF's or Denny's. Nice!
