In 1935 in Columbus, Ohio a great game was played between Ohio State and Notre Dame. Both teams were great and had perfect records that year coming into the game so there was much anticipation. Ohio State was leading 13 - 0 at the end of three quarters of play. One of Ohio State's tds was set up by an ND fumble.
Early in the fourth quarter Notre Dame scored a td to get back into the game but missed the extra point and still trailed 6 to 13. Their defense held then ND moved for a td with about six minutes left. ND lined up to kick the tying kick but missed again and now Ohio State still led 13 to 12 and just needed to get a couple of first downs to run the clock out.
Ohio State got the ball on the kickoff and proceeded to try to run out the clock with a few first downs but this time is was their turn to fumble the ball in their territory. Notre Dame took advantage and moved the ball down to get the last td with about three minutes left and led 18 to 13. (Yes ND missed the third extra point). Ohio State still had a chance to win if they could score a td but the momentum was in ND's favor and they held on to win 18 to 13 in a great game by two teams with a great comeback by ND. What was remarkable is that ND had to score three tds in the fourth quarter against a good Ohio State defense to win.

This was Ohio State's only loss in the year as they won all the rest of their games. Notre Dame won all the rest of their games except for a 6 - 6 tie with Army later in the year. ND got away with not making the extra points against Ohio State but not against Army as they had to settle for a tie. ND must not have recruited a kicker for that year.
