"Favoritism" complaints [Archive]

This is meant to be a general note to all members. Not trying to single anybody out or anything.

We hear complaints about the mods playing favortism all the time from 100 different directions. ANYBODY can claim that with little or no proof what-so-ever. More often than not, it's usually the old juvenile "Never mind what I did, look what Johnny's doing" bit. The rules plainly say everyone is responsible for what happens under their own username. Each case is different, each moderator is different. Judgement must be applied in all cases. Usually other members aren't familiar with the history of each situation, so comparisons to other events aren't necessarily even valid. Think of it this way, there are currently 1733 members, so, we're dealing with at least 1733 different online personalities. We do our best to provide equal treatment, but it's not possible in ALL cases.

What we need from our members is a concerted effort to stop taking pm's from mods as automatic warnings or threats. Sometimes we are simply asking for some co-operation. Take it from me, this ain't an easy job, and we're not getting paid to do it.

Sinton 66 is right and I know for sure he doesn't play favorites because I got into trouble a few years ago here when my nephew got on and posted some things that shouldn't have been posted and the only thing that may have saved me from being ROMed was because everyone could tell that the posts were completely out of character with what I post. But still it was under my name and I was responsible so I had to take the chastisement which was well deserved for me not being observant (My nephew is not allowed to use my computer anymore needless to say). And Sinton66 is not partial at all as it should be and I am subject to the rules too even though he is actually a personal friend of mine.
I'm sure the other mods are impartial too and remember they are doing a free and sometimes thankless job. Thank you mods for your efforts.

I'll be the first to admit that I take after Jacket's style somewhat. It's fair to say that I sometimes "swat" a "gnat" with a sledgehammer. I can honestly assure anyone who asks, it's NEVER personal with me unless the person I'm dealing with insists on making it that way. In that event, they automatically become "fair game".

What's funny is that people think that the Mods play favorites.

What's even funnier is that people actually COMPLAIN about it.

But the funniest thing is that people actually care enough to complain.

Who cares if they play favorites or not....seriously. It's a freaking internet message board.

Although, I hadn't really intended to crawl up on a "soapbox", I guess the point I'm trying to make is that all of you face the same problem we do, but to a lesser degree. Just like we have 1733 personalities to try to deal with, each of you have the six of us, not just one. What is acceptable to one may not be to another. That's just the way life is.

You know i've read on other boards that their is software implemented that if you don't like a specific poster that you can press a mob button.....and if enough posters end up pressing that button the poster is basically mobbed
