Very impressive indeed. He was a star running back for UT in the mid 1970s and won the Heisman Trophy and had a great pro football career at Houston and New Orleans.

Also he led John Tyler to the state championship in football his senior year and was all state running back and made all district linebacker on defense. I think that was in 1973.

Also inducted into the Pro Football HOF a few years back. Led the Oilers to the brink of the Super Bowl & lost twice to the vaunted Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. Put Houston on his back, thus the "Earlers" bumper sticker. He was a great one - the Tyler Rose. True Texas legend & icon. Takes me back to my childhood when I met him in the UT locker room as a wide-eyed 7 year old kid!! Earl punished people when he ran & snot flew, as DKR once said. Glad UT honored him - way overdue.

Since we're listing his resume, I thought I'd add he's a reknowned sausage maker too. ;)

I love the way Earl Rips off the NFL logo and gets away with it.:D

Earl was good enough to do whatever he wants to do!! The logo is interesting, never noticed that. I don't care about sausage - the man is a legend & the statue is long overdue at UT. Can anyone name one better during his prime? He did not last as long as others due to # of carries, but he's an all-time great. No one can question that.

Earl to Billy White Shoes Johnson? You're kidding right? Hall of Famer vs. kick returner/ end zone dancer? Elmo Wright was the 1st to end zone dance at UH & then the pros anyway. The NFL Network even gives him credit. Sweeny boy (Wright), but still not HOF. Gotta to better than that!!
