It needs to start with a big fat picture of Franchione being escorted out the door. Every time I see an interview with him on KBTX in Bryan, he looks as though he could care less about how the team does.

Why should he? The idiot makes $2 million without lifting a finger - not because he has a fraction of Mack's reputation, but because the school wanted to pay ANYBODY as much or more money than t.u. does.

Unless you're a LEGEND at the likes of Texas State and New Mexico State, your paycheck shouldn't exceed 800,000.

A&M to show off new ad campaign

The slogan "Welcome to Aggieland" is nothing new for area residents and former students of Texas A&M University. The words are on the campus water tower, and they are a permanent fixture at Kyle Field, displayed in giant maroon letters.

But A&M officials are hoping to introduce the phrase to a wider market with a new marketing strategy aimed at sparking interest in the university among potential students and their parents. The Welcome to Aggieland campaign attempts to communicate what is unique about A&M, said Steve Moore, chief marketing officer and vice president of communications.

"It's very representative of the university and the things that go on here," he said about the campaign. "It embodies the feeling and loyalty of this place. [People] will get an impression of A&M that is accurate. It's not just about football, and it's not just about science. It's a nice balance of what makes this school unique."

The major component of the marketing plan is a two-minute, 16-second video that will be unveiled Friday - kicking off a campaign that is expected to cost the university a little less than $1 million.

The video will be shown at the Academic Convocation ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Rudder Theater. It will be shown again on Kyle Field's new video screen during the Aggie football game Saturday.

The video also will be sent in DVD form to high schools across the nation as a marketing tool and be shown before official speaking engagements. Shorter versions will be broadcast as commercials during televised Aggie sports events, Moore said.

The video was filmed this summer by Austin-based GSD&M, an advertising agency that has worked with companies such as Chili's, Krispy Kreme, Southwest Airlines and Wal-Mart.

The video captures images of students around campus and the community, including the Texas 6 road sign, Aggie Yell Leaders, the Corps of Cadets and the school's canine mascot, Reveille. There also is footage from Aggie football games and traditions like Muster and Elephant Walk.

"There is a place where tradition is a way of life," a voice says at the beginning of the video.

In addition to the video, there are about 55 new "Welcome to Aggieland" banners on light poles across campus that are visible on University and George Bush drives.

Moore said the goal of the campaign is to recruit students to the university and spread the message of what makes Aggieland special.

"We need to reach out more effectively to East Texas, West Texas and South Texas - beyond the major population centers," Moore said. "I know there are more kids who would love to come to school here if they knew more about it."
