Yah I always loved that song as a kid, and get excited every time I hear it now but I NEVER knew who sang it... I tried to think of it without googling it and I couldn't (just kept comparing his voice to that of Don Williams', who is great as well)...

I asked my buddy who's a big classic country guy as well as his family, they couldn't get it... finally his mother called back and said it's "Mel McDaniel".... I had never heard of him but I always liked "Louisiana Saturday Night" as well...
