Region IV Game of the Week (1): Bandera @ Hondo

Giving my former district's team some love, the Bandera Bulldogs will travel to Hondo to take on the Owls.

The 'Dogs return 5/8 starters from the 2005 team and are led by QB Bandon Hicks. With realignment, the playoffs in 2006 are almost a given. Will the Bulldogs manage to make up for the zero week loss to LaVernia and win?

The Owls were a 2005 DI quarterfinalist and return 7/6 starters. They were one of the many "casualties" of Wimberley during last season's playoffs. RB Andy Werner and QB Elliott Hackebeil will be the strongest returning offensive players. Do the Owls have what it takes to beat the 'Dogs?

Thoughts? Predictions?

Hondo rb and qb can put up some points, its just their defense not as strong as their offense. they outscore Bandera in a shootout 38-34

I think this will be a good game, but I'm hoping my Dogs come out on top....good luck to both teams...always fun to travel down 173 for a Friday nite game!!! :D

I believe it will be a shootout, defense seems to be much improved, but the owls will be tested this week and we will find out how good that D really is behind the leadership of Middle LB Wes Favor.

If the D does not come through for Hondo, then for sure it will be a track meet.

Bandera won last year right? I think they should be favored but you never know playing at Hondo. They are pretty tough at home or anywhere.

Bandera won convincely last year, i think the score was like 47- something, dont remember, but hondo did not do much last year vs Bandera

Im gonna have to go with Bandera on this one, QB Hicks is my cousin and I watched him in practice a few times when I was in Bandera, and he looked even better than last year. Also the defense looks better now that it is their second year in the system.

This was a great game,great effort from both teams, it was an early playoff atmosphere type ball game.
