View Full Version : Region III Game of the Week (1): West Columbia @ Bellville

The Columbia Roughnecks will travel to Bellville to take on the Brahmas.

The 'Necks return 6/6 starters including RB Jared Flannel, who finished the 2005 season with 165 carries, 1489 yds and 18 TD's. They were 2005 DI regional semifinalists. Can the 'Necks overcome the loss of DL legendary player Necks_06 and pull out the win?

The Brahmas look to be loaded  returning 9/8 starters from the 2005 DI bi-district finalist team. Will the return of almost the entire team be enough to win over the Necks?

Thoughts? Predictions?

Should be fun. Hopefully Flannel plays. D-Backfield for Columbia is impressive.

Just curious if they Columbia and Bellville have a common oponent they have faced over the last couple of years? Anything to compare will help me on my prediction.

Thanks for the info but the Yoakum games were the first of the season for Columbia in 04 and 05... not that it makes a huge difference but usually most high school teams dont quite play as well in week 1 as they do later in the year!! But Bellville won by bigger margins in both years. I'd be willing to bet that Bellville wouldnt have let Wimberley put 62 on em last year!! Who did Bellville lose to in the playoffs last year?

I kinda want WC to win just because necks-06 is on my team but I have more history with the Brahmas. I'll still say Bellville will win. I've also been a one-man cheering section for the Brahmas here for about four years now.:)

Chaney (starting tailback) had knee surgery. He is just now got the ok to play, but he can only play offence or defence for this first game. He picked to play defence so that Lane O'Conner (the QB) wouldnt have to go both ways. But you will see chaney this friday if everything goes good. And as for the punting situation. Chaney is the original punter. The first day he was back he was kicking monsteris 50-60 yard punts.

Glad to see Chaney booming those punts. That should fix Bellville's punting woes and help them maintain better field position.

I'm looking for RB Nunn to break out and have a good game. He looked very good in the Santa Fe scrimmage. Columbia will probably key on Cooper, after he went for 202 yds against Sealy.

We don't claim to be River Oaks, but there are some fine folks in Bellville, so I wouldn't make those kinds of statements at the game. We're a loyal bunch, too. Just like to go the the Pasture(of Pain) on Friday nights in the fall. If that makes us rednecks (and we ARE red--your team may be seeing too much of it tonight!), oh well... Hope you are at the game, you'll see how much we love our team. Good luck, travel safe, and injury-free play is a win for both teams!

Good post Mom, If you were there you saw why it is called the Pasture or Pain!
If Bellville gets there passing game going we might score 20 more points a game.
Also give credit to bellville football players for 101 wins, you cant win with out great Bellville talent!

Absolutely, FBB, the players have been working hard all summer, they are pumped, the supporting students--band, pep squad, cheerleaders, are all waht makes it special. They all earned a part of that 101st win. I credit former players almost as much--for setting the bar high, expectations high, traditions, and goals. It's fun to get back into the Brahma stands again. Love the fans!

here is the only thing I dont understand, your mascot is a bovine and I did not hear one cowbell ringing... (and yall had plenty of chances to ring em)...

bellville is a good football team. 33 is a man on defense as is 79. and linebacker 23 i think, is also a stud...

Defense is quickly becoming one of this team's strengths. We all knew the offense would be good, but this defense has been a pleasant surprise. They are very stingy against the run and are playing outstanding team defense, led by 79, 52, 23, 33 and 43.

#33 Byron Abbs is a man on deffence. Benching 385 at the end of his sophmore year and running around a 4.5 fourty. #52 Marshall Crawford is one of the smartest players you will ever see. The Bellville defence is outstanding this year and cant wait to see how they match up against Giddings offence later in district.
