View Full Version : Burnet @ Liberty Hill

Burnet is coming off their worst season in years of 4-6. They missed the playoffs for the first time in many years. Last Friday, the Bulldogs overcame a dismal first half full of turnovers and mistakes to beat Taylor 38-19. Liberty Hill has had to reload the 'monster' and look to be on their way to another good season. They started off last friday by beating a Waco Connally team that went 9-2 last year and returned almost everyone this season. The game is in Liberty Hill, and I expect an awesome atmosphere for this game between the two rival teams. Anyone have any thoughts or predictions on this one? I'm gonna say the Panthers will be 1-1 after Friday....

LHPM, could we do the shirt signing prior to kickoff, cause we'd(Burnet folk) like to sign it, but don't want you to pull a disappearing act at halftime or after the game??:D ;) :p

Chris - I was expecting you to be the one to start the LH/Burnet thread. Thanks for getting things started!

This will be a mental game for LH. 2 years ago, LH should've won the game and didn't. Last year - everyone went in thinking it was "the year." I know a lot of behind the scenes things but bottom line, LH played horrible and got humiliated.

It's a hard one to call as I know nothing about Burnet. LH played a fairly typical "first game" for them on Friday. Too many penalties, mishandled the ball a couple of times. With that said, I wasn't at all impressed w/ Waco Connally. They had speed, but that's about it. Also, they were huffing & puffing by 3rd quarter.

So... I'll make it a homer call and predict LH will pull it out this year... mostly because no one would expect it!

GO PANTHERS!! BEAT THE BULLDOGS!

Shirt signing/picture taking will definitely be before the game. I'll be too busy congratulating our boys on the win afterward. :D :p

Seriously, though... I've seen a lot of good things so far from this team, and some things that need to be worked on. I think with the loss of our "big names" and OL to graduation, most people expected us to be down somewhat. We've got lots of kids that are out on the field to prove something to themselves and everyone else - that they ARE as good as the last couple of years.

This year, I think the mental "block" goes away and the Panthers get the win. :D

I have afeeling the Dawgs are gonna surprise some people this year, and that includes the Panthers on Friday. If our offense can play like they played at times in the second half of the taylor game, and we can eliminate the turnovers, the Panthers will have a hard time stopping our offense. Burnet usually has a fairly tough time stopping the slot-T, the LH game is the only time we see it all year, but we usually get it done. Wimberley 05 is the only team I've seen that could completely shut down the LH slot-T. I attribute some of Burnet's first game mishaps to only having one scrimmage this year, there was still a few kinks. I expect the Burnet staff to have an excellent gameplan, and the Bulldogs bite the Panthers in a shootout 42-27:cool:

And if they play like they did the first half, the score will probably be reversed. ;) (Sorry....)

Burnets never been three times the size of Liberty Hill and Liberty Hills Coach has said that he will keep playing Burnet until Liberty Hill wins. As long as Vance wants to play, I would imagine Shipley will oblige him.

The LH JV looked pretty good tonight. Don't know the final, but it was fairly lopsided in LH's favor when I left. LH had some very small backs, that ran VERY hard, and Burnet could NOT tackle them.

I didn't catch the freshmen final either, last I saw Burnet was leading 22-14

Yay, JV! 22-14 was the final for A-team, 8-0 LH B-team

LHPM - We have a Freshman A and B team?

Boy times have changed, when my son was a freshman (fall 2000) there were only 16-17 kids on the only freshman squad....

LOL! I was surprised myself. I think they normally only field one team, but may have split them up last night since Burnet has both. Things have definitely changed here since "those days"....the same year, JV had 13-14. Probably total in 2000, there were 50-55 kids out for football. I think there's 120-130 now.

I think the final JV score was something like LH 36 Burnet 22. The Panther JV looked really good and played a tough game. Congratulations on the win!

I think your correct about the freshman scores, A team, Burnet 22 LH 14, LH pretty much dominated the 1st half. B team LH 8 Burnet 0. Congratulations to all the boys that participated last night:)

I don't know what Burnet has, but the way LH manhandled a pretty solid Connally team they will give Burnet all they want and some more.

Chris Hart? olddawggreen? We're on the way back, on the right track. We just happen to be in a very tough district again. We lost the New Braunfels schools, but, we inherited the Pflugerville schools. IMO, we are two years away from being a great team again, but there is potential in this year's team. They are small, but the team speed as a whole is very good. Our lines are small and inexperienced so that may be the downfall of this year's team. If we play to our potential, we will be a handful even to the district favorites Pflugerville Connally, Lake Travis, Pflugerville Hendrickson, and Cedar Park. I think we'll be in the middle of the playoff picture...:)
