Bellville, but they will need to play 4 good quarters of football. Hopefully, they solve their punting woes or Columbia will take advantage of the short field.

Amen, I've seen many a game fallen by the wayside because of poor fielding or special teams play. Championship caliber teams ALWAYS have a good kicking game and a stingy defense.

Caldwell needs some work on its kicking game too. Making half your PATs won't cut it in a tough league.

Columbia is young, young at some important positions.

They will get better each week.

Bellville wins this one big.

I disagree. Columbia may be young, but the young players are very good. Especially at RB with Grice and Holmes

If cockiness or ego lit up a scoreboard, West Columbia would win 174-0............... but attitude doesn't suit up on Friday nights.

Bellville will rock.

IN ORDER FOR COLUMBIA TO EVEN HAVE A CHANCE THEY MUST CONTAIN THE BELLVILLE RUNNING GAME A STOP THE BIG PLAY WHEN HARRIS TOUCHES THE BALL. AND PERSONALLY I DONT SEE THAT HAPPENING. IF THE BULLS COMPETE AND PLAY LIKE THEY DID DURING THE FIRST HALF OF LAST WEEKS GAME THEY ARE GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT TO BEAT.

BELLVILLE 39 - COLUMBIA 14

I think the outcome of this game will be determined if #22 for the necks is healthy! Definitely a game changer, but I dont have a clue on his status. He would negate Bellville's tailback I'm hearing about if he was HEALTHY. But the Necks and the Brahmas both played 2 mediocre teams and probably didnt come close to playing to their potential. 3 picks for the roughneck secondary wasnt to shabby! If the Necks cut down on turnovers and capitalize in the redzone they should win, but you never know especially with 2 teams that havent faced each other this decade! Bellville gets the homefield advantage so that should help them. Looking forward to this Friday and Bellville posters feel free to let me know where a good place to eat is!

Anywhere from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour trip. Depends on how fast you drive. Just go up 36 through Rosenberg and Sealy and your there!

Better stop at Tony's in Sealy on your way to Bellville unless you like Mexican or Chinese food. Bellville has a couple of good Mexican restaurants as well as a good Chinese restaurant. Tony's has a fine variety of foods.
I don't believe that Columbia can beat Bellville, in spite of what a former coach told me about the great looking kids they have at Columbia.
Bellville looked real good early in the game against a weak Sealy team and looked bad the second half in spite of keeping many of its top kids on the field. Even though the quarterback threw for several touchdowns, I didn't think his throwing was good at all. A better secondary would have picked off at least four passes. Bellville's offensive line looked good as they made some big holes and protected their quarterback real well. Alan Cooper is a fine player and Brandon Harris is very dangerous.
Defensively I just don't know, but believe a decent offense can give Bellville trouble.

I would say that Columbia has a decent offense. It should have been 35 -0 going into the second half last week against B-Port. I believe between the Scott twins alone they had 3 pics, though I'm not sure how many the team had for the entire game? The roughnecks have some speedy kids on offense and other than the first half interception thrown by Jason Scott he looked pretty good at QB being it was his first varsiy start. The defense played mediocre but should be capable of playing alot better. If Jared Flannel plays and is healthy Columbia wins. If he doesnt.... flip a coin!!

Bellville will need to play all 4 quarters like they played the 1st half vs Sealy, Bellville looked like two different teams. Bellville will need to get there punter back on the field(Chaney).
What is wrong with the Flannel kid?

played sparingly in scrimmage vs 4A Angleton (as is coaches usual method)

had foot stepped on in El Campo scrimmage and was sore most of the week

Looks to play this week but would not be surprised if coach holds him out to get better with district just three weeks away

Just to let everyone know, bellville is the real deal this year. They have the makings of a team that can reel of a run similar to whimberly. They control the ball on offense, and have a VERY stingy defense.
I feel that they are the "sleeper" in this region. especially with the two playmakers in #5 and #28.

Flannel is special - he will be needed for WC to have a chance. WC is young & will only get better, but I have to take Bellville this early in the year. Good luck to both teams, & get well #22 for a bright D1 future.

Speaking of....
Texas Bob's database says ya'lls stadium holds 2400. The picture only shows the home side, so how many of that is on the visitors side? Is there parking available close by, or do we have to hoof it to the stadium?

BrahmaMom

We have just paved lots of parking, of which we are very proud, but you might still have a bit of a walk if you don't get there early. The visitors' side seats fewer than the home side, but there's plenty of standing room. Drive safe, enjoy dinner, then come to the Pasture for dessert!

Sweeny's school colors are columbia blue & white. They did have red trim as recently as the late '70s. When Bob Pyssen came in 1980 he got rid of it & added more silver. Uniforms usually have navy, silver, & of course columbia blue & white. Junior High wears royal blue (figure that one out?). I guess it is the current coach's discretion. I personally favor more navy, silver, & white with columbia blue trim. Columbia blue is not exactly an intimidating color, esp. on a helmet.

Columbia HS is consolidated like Pancho said with nearby Brazoria, thus it's Columbia - Brazoria ISD. The city limits sign still says "West Columbia", & heading towards Angleton you pass thru "East Columbia". Very historical area, Varner Hogg Plantation, 1st Capital of the Republic of Texas, etc. So they did away with the directional theme a la some colleges (no longer Southwest Louisiana, Southwest Texas State, etc.) to become just Columbia. Has a better ring to it but confuses some oldtimers. Columbia is maroon & white, with black often used to trim & accent the colors. Hope that helps.

What is Flannel's status? Has he fully recovered from the stress fracture in his foot that knocked him out during the playoffs last year (& all other sports)? This kid has a special gear & I hope he is able to get well for a promising college career. Good luck.
