Olymphic Gold Metalist Bob Mathias Passes Away :(

See below. He was a great champion and starred as the coach in the great movie "It Happened in Athens" which is still on tv from time to time. RIP Bob. :(

Other movies he made include The Minoteur and China Doll which he co-starred with Victor Mature, Ward Bond and Stuart Whitman. He also starred in the movie called The Bob Mathias Store made in 1954 in which he stars as himself and also starred Ward Bond as his coach. I haven't seen this one but will be looking for it. The great pro football player/ sportscaster Frank Gifford appears in this movie from clips of the Stanford vs USC game. This movie is supposed to be a great track and field movie. Somehow this is one I have never seen.

carter upon reading the article more carefully I didn't know he played in the 1952 Rose Bowl for Stanford (Illinois won the game 40 to 7) before beginning training for his repeat victory in the 1952 Olympics. Remarkable.

It is ok carter but thanks for the support. PPHS is a good internet friend of mine and in fact he and Pirate44 were very helpful in getting my GodFather signature done and believe you me it took those two friends great patience to show me how to get it done at the time.

It goes without saying that PPHS is sad to hear of Bob's passing away like the rest of us.
