My vote is with the Pirates. And 4INAROW can discuss whatever on here. It's a football site, but we are friends here, too. Good Luck, Pirates!

Either way it should be a great game. IT usually is. Good luck to both teams.

My take on it as a fan(as usual):
.
Sinton lost big last week and GP won big.
Two different results by two(should be) good teams this year for the opening week. Sinton lost to a top ranked team in Cuero(yes I said top ranked Gilmer dudes ;) ) and GP played 5A King(doesn't matter who they are but King does sometimes bring it). The difference of margins for both teams was 52 collectively, +23 for GP over a 5A team to -29 for Sinton to a 3A team. Doesn't look good for my Pirates in that category.
Who cares about that stuff anyway? lol
.
Pirate offense:
Sinton is working on their running game, period. Don't be suprised if they continue to work on it all game long, just like last week. All indications point to that. They might throw a time or two but look for them to stay on the ground. The young line should have a little better time against the Wildcats if they have learned anything from the wuppin they took from the Gobblers. If GP brings an 8 man line or better it's gonna be a long night, but who knows? I look for them to double last weeks rushing total.
.
Pirate defense:
The defense played pretty good last week, but this week they play GP. The line should keep big holes from forming inside, as that is one of their strengths. GP might have some success outside if they run good speed to the corners and they stick their blocks. The corners do a good job of coming up and preventing that from happening. The pass D is solid within 10-15 yards but Cuero exposed problems with the deep ball. The Wildcats, if they have an accurate QB, might be able to exploit the deep ball. Until my Pirates become better on offense this is the team strength: Good physical D, upfront and beyond.
.
Pirate special teams: The punting team needs work on long snaps but punts looked ok. The kicking team wasn't bad but some work on kickoff coverage couldn't hurt. Didn't get to see any PATs but hopefully we got an accurate kicker.
.
.
Wildcat offense:
Don't know much but what has been mentioned by here and a couple who went to the game I talked to. If GP keeps it around 70/30 run-pass then they can have success if they keep it outside. They have a young team and if they run block well they will get more yards than Cuero on the ground. They will need to be very gritty inside the 20's as Sinton is tough there. 70% runs will play into Sinton's strength. Gotta throw the deep ball to be successful.
.
Wildcat defense:
They kept King off the field a bunch. King is bigger than Sinton on "O" for sure. I'm not sure about this year but GP always have been hard hitting and Haris believes in that style of play too(lol so does Mitchell). They will fly to the ball quick and decisively. They are strong against the run. Very strong. They have quick linebackers who get to the line and can run side to side. The secondary might be the best of the unit, that's saying something. Three picks against King is something to talk about. They will be hard to run against, period.
.
Wildcat special teams:
Not sure here but have to give them kudos for getting that 40 yrd FG last week and missing one XP. I'm sure they might be planning on getting a few FGs if they need to .
.
.
Intangibles:
GP is at home. Tough to play there with that rabid crowd making all that noise but I'm sure Sinton will come ready to play. If Alaniz still doesn't play then it'll be a little tougher for Sinton. Sinton's run game is a work in progress and they are planning to work on it. My Pirates will be playing to GP strengths on D while they might be playing to Sinton's strength on D. It should be a low scoring affair, so whoever wins on turnovers will have the advantage. If it rains, who knows... lol
.
.
All said and done:
I think GP should be favored by about 10 points at home, but my "gut feeling" says otherwise.:) :) :)
.
.
.
.

RIP OUT THOSE CLAWS COMING AT YOU AND USE THEM AS TOOTHPICS!!!!!!!!!!!!

How's that for some football talk....... Could we beat them in pads and with 11 players? I guess we'll never know.......

I gotta run now....... Adios :)

Name a team that didn't run all over Gp's 7-7? My God, Gal Allen only won one game and that was against Gp. It's 11-11 that brings the trophies home last I checked and very few have done that against our 11.

Hope they ironed out some of those wrinkles. Special teams were, uh....not to bueno last week. :( The first 2 punts looked okay, then our kicker went down with an injury after that it was downhill. Our kick returns were :hairpunk: Gotta catch it first, then go...

I could be wrong though!! HORRORS!! I think I remember seeing some Region Champ trophies in Sinton's hallways.

I KNOW I saw some STATE trophies, but those were for other sports so I better not talk about those. :D Wouldn't want to be accused of not talking football, again.

Just wanted to let yall know that here at G-P things are looking good! The thing that yall will notice about G-P is that we have a strong bonded T.E.A.M. They play with a whole lot of heart and dont give up on runs! They are scrapy but young. 3 sophs on D and 3-4 on O. Most of the rest are juniors and only 2 seniors on bothsides of the ball! This team has Future implications! Hope yall sinton fans have a safe trip over to Wildcat Stadium! Sorry for the abreviation!

Interesting quote from Caller-Times dispite some comments how well the coverage was last Fiday night. Who are we supposed to believe?

"The outcome wasn't surprising, but the breakdown in the secondary was.

"We made a lot of mistakes back there," Mitchell said. "We blew some coverages, and they did some things we weren't expecting."

You wanna hear that our Offense is a big, fat question mark at this point??? That is OBVIOUS to everyone in South Texas. You were at the game. You saw that we struggled against a very strong & fast Cuero "D" to get the run going. We didn't attmept very many passes, but maybe we will this week. Our offensive line has great size, but those boys are young and pardon me, but in my humble opinion, need a fire lit under them!! All that size won't amount to much if they don't use it properly. I know based on the score some of you don't think that our Defense is our bright spot, but it is. They are fast and if you think your Offense is gonna run on them just ask Cuero how well that worked out for them! (check that-I guess 137 is pretty good (LOL), but I'm sure they expected a bunch more & got them in the air ) There are some question marks in the secondary. I don't know much about the Gp receivers, but I think I like our chances against them!! I expect this to be a low scoring game: Sinton 10 Gp 7

Well gee...there you have some quotes from this thread, all of us concerned about the secondary. What I didn't find in my research was anyone from Sinton saying that our secondary was gonna shut Gp down. :nerd:

I did notice something very interesting though, YOU continuously asked for football talk, but didn't supply any YOURSELF.

The Sinton fish & Jv have alot of work to do. Your Gp JV squad has alot of size and looked really good on defense!! I only stayed for the 1st half. Sinton's JV squad started the game with nice movement down the field and then that Gp defense shut them down around midfield, I think. After that, Sinton couldn't get much going. Working on the run, passed I think once or twice. Young JV defense looked alright. Again they too had a some breakdowns in the secondary...WR wide open for the TD. These are things they'll have to continue to work on to prepare themselves not only for district play, but for stepping in to fill some big shoes next year!!

Still lots of football to be played. Hopefully our Varsity squad will have better luck tonight! I've said it all week...low scoring game, Sinton by 3!!!
