Bobcats stroll past Buna
BUNA — The Orangefield Bobcats started their 2006 season off the right way with a 28-7 win over the Buna Cougars at Cougar Stadium Friday night.
On the first posession of the game Orangefield came out fired up but the drive quickly ended with an interception. The Bobcats held their own and quickly got the ball back marching down the field with a Brett Ramsey 44-yard run which was later followed by a 3-yard touchdown pass from Ramsey to senior receiver Cliff Mansfield with 2:57 remaining in the first quarter.
Buna would come firing back with a drive of their own with the help of a 10-yard run from Blanton Craft that ended with a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Carrell to receiver Edwin Jones with 11:53 remaining in the first half.
The Bobcats again came roaring back on the kickoff when senior Corey Shepard returned the kickoff 71 yards down the right sideline with 11:50 left in the half.
Later in the second quarter Ramsey would scamper into the end zone with a 7-yard run with just 0 :17 left.
The second halfi was all Bobcats when late in the third quarter Ramsey completed a 25-yard pass to Corey Shepard which was followed by a 6-yard touchdown run from Ramsey giving him his second score on the night with 7:26 remaining in the third period.
The Cougars tried to put together a drive of their own but the Orangefield defense had their number. Brett Ramsey would end up 6 for 14 for 89 yards and a touchdown pass and two touchdown runs of his own to go along with 77 yards rushing. His leading receiver would be Shepard, who had two catches for 34 yards.
The Bobcats finished with 141 yards on the ground and 89 in the air for 230 total yards. Buna finished with 141 yards on the ground and 69 in the air for 210 yards of total offense. Carrell led Buna with 47 yards on the ground while throwing for 69 yards and a touchdown.
The Bobcats will bring with them their first win to East Chambers where they will play the Bucanneers at Bucanneer Stadium next friday night.
