View Full Version : Gilmer vs Tatum (Sept 8)

Last night, my opinion of this one performed a colossal "flip flop" for absolutely no good reason. Call it "gut instinct", but I see it turning out:

Gilmer 47
Tatum 12

This will be a combination of a good game from the Buckeyes, a bad game for the Eagles, and the venue (Buckeye Stadium).

I apologize for being scatterbrained.:D

Gilmer is gonna roll Tatum.

You didn't miss the score by much.

I will say.

Gilmer 43

The "Red Mustache" was at the Gilmer/Gorman game. He was impressed with Gilmer, but noted that Gorman lacked a defense or any kind of passing game. He said Tatum has a great passing game with tremendous speed. The Mean Green defense is also very tough. He predicts Tatum will defeat Gilmer by a TD.

He wants to know where were all the Gilmer posters were when New Boston gave the Buckeyes all they wanted in last week's scrimmage? He said New Boston doesn't even compare to what Tatum will bring to the game. Remember, 2A Tatum did a pretty good number on 4A Kilgore.

Boy, I wish I could be at Friday's Gilmer-Tatum game. It's going to be a classic. Gilmer has the homefield advantage, but Tatum's speed will be the difference. The Eagles win by a touchdown.

I know last week I couldn't get any kind of response on the Gilmer/New Boston scrimmage. Gilmer crushes Gorman and now we are handing them the state championship. I think Gilmer is a very good team, but let's see some more games before we give them the crown. Who knows, maybe Gorman isn't a very good team. If they don't win a game or have a losing season, then the Gilmer win is not all that impressive. This game should be a very good gage on what they have in Buckeye land.

Gorman's "lack of defense" couldn't possibly be because Gilmer had an unstoppable offense. Noooooo, no, nooooo, let's not even consider that as a possibility!

You're onto us! Gilmer scheduled Gorman because the head coach at Gorman played kickball in the third grade against the current Gilmer junior high principal's second oldest son. Gorman doesn't even really play football! They gathered up the tuba players from the band (because they're obviously strong to carry around a tuba), the tallest kids from the swim team, and the guy who happened to be at the school restocking the vending machines, threw them on a plane, and passed out uniforms on the way to Texas. Then the coach had a pregame "paper/rock/scissors" tournament in the locker room to assign positions, and there ya' go.

All things considered, they didn't do too bad!!!

There's your response.

I'll definately be there. I don't miss any of the games.

Anyone thinking about coming, seriously better be there no later than 6 if you want a seat. We Gilmer folk get there VERY early. At the state game in 2004, there were several hundreds, if not a thousand people in the stadium just 30-60 minits after the gates opened.

I plan on getting there around 5:30 to save my seat.

Gilmer owns tatum. tatum QB have a rag arm. they werent playing a real team in daingerfield, who is washed up.
gilmer will clip the wings of the sick birds. plus we will dish out some crow. tatum folks been bragging all week. the crow will taste good to them. this will be tatum's biggest game all year.
they are scared of gilmer, always have been scared of the bucks.
the score will be gilmer 46 tatum 14.

tatum is not that good this year. they should win the district, but the gilmer buckeyes are going to soften them up for center.
if you take all the crap out of an eagle, you dont have much left
to work with. they will get stomped in gilmer this year.

If Gilmer is going to lose a regular season game---this would be the one. I'm picking Tatum in an upset. Tatum is one of the few schools who can almost matchup with Gilmer in D1 prospect talent, plus the fact that most of their players are battle hardenend at the state-playoff level---they have seen "good" teams before.

On the other hand---no question about the "horsepower" of Gilmer which has been documented and re-documented. They are just flat "good". Question is---what will this talent do when they have somebody on the other side of the ball who can, and will, stay "with" them after their "shock and awe" offensive attack.. It may be that Gilmer is "hitting" on all the "cylinders" already early in the season and has all that talent "in sync". If that is so, then Gilmer will "blow by" anybody this year.

The "Red Mustache" is the "walking encyclopedia" of high school football. Originally from Bellville, this man knows high school football. He is now living in Longview and has been watching all those great East Texas teams. You might of seen him on last year's DQ game of the week (Bellville/Marlin). He would paint his handle bar mustache red in support of his Bellville team. Ask the coaches from Gilmer or Tatum, they all know him.

Honestly, I think Gilmer wins, and not because of homerism. By how much depends on how Gilmer plays the 1st half. If they come out sloppy like they did against Vegas, then they will win in a close one. But if they come out sharp and focused and on point, then they can win big. My reasoning for this is because Tatum has several, about 6, kids who are starters both ways compared to Gilmer who has maybe 1 or 2 two way starters. Gilmer's depth and Tatum's lack of depth is going to be the difference in this game. Also, I'm giving Tatum the benefit of the doubt that they will play better than they did against Daingerfield Friday. I don't think that Tatum will come close to beating Gilmer if they play as poorly as they did the 1st half against D'field.

If Gilmer starts slow:

Gilmer - 42, Tatum - 30

If Gilmer comes out strong:

Gilmer - 56, Tatum - 14

That's the most important part of that statement. Gilmer has not lost a home game since 2002 in like Week 3 (Pine Tree 14 Gilmer 7). The Buckeyes are very tough at home, and Tatum will find that out yet again on Friday.

Just to reiterate:

Buckeyes 47
Eagles 12

I agree -Gilmer is in a "no win" situation, win or lose. And Gilmer posters---I didn't pick Tatum to upset Gilmer because I "hate " Gilmer or want to see them lose ...I have no axes to grind. I just think that Tatum has a fair chance to beat Gilmer early in the season. Later in the season, I think Gilmer wins.

I agree -Gilmer is in a "no win" situation, win or lose. And Gilmer posters---I didn't pick Tatum to upset Gilmer because I "hate " Gilmer or want to see them lose ...I have no axes to grind.

I feel the same way, I'm just the messenger for the Red Mustache. I was there in 2004 to see Gilmer win it all. Good luck to both teams!

what an awesome game. It will not be decided by double digits.

No, because EVERYBODY knows Cuero is better than either one of them.

its JUST a non-district game...... really the only thing at stake is week 3 rankings and we all know what that is worth

winning or losing THIS GAME will not affect either teams' ability to win their respective state titles, which they both are favored to do and will still be favored to do following this game

155 and 271 will merge as you get into Gilmer. At the stop sign, continue straight (sorta a left veer; you'll get it) and follow to the second stop light (Tyler St/Hwy 154). Turn left, go through two stop lights and look for Bradford St on the right approximately 1/4 mile past the second stop light. Turn onto Bradford and you can't miss the stadium. Visitor parking is on Bradford, and home parking is on Buffalo St. If you get there after 6:30, you won't be able to sit on the home side.

Hope you're confused now!

Trust me! It isn't hard to find the football stadium in Texas in a town of 4800 people! If you get lost, ask the first person you see, and they'll tell you. We're all very nice over here! (Unless you're from the town the Buckeyes are playing that week!:D )

It's a good thing that this game is early in the season. This will give Gilmer time to recruit more players if things do not go well for them.

if gilmer recruited all them great playas then how come they aint on the rivals top ten for recruitin? maybe instead of recruiting stars they recruited team players in which case we should applaud them.
