Very good start. Several impressive wins. WO-S and Kirbyville highlight the big wins.

What's up with Livingston. Goodness, I couldn't believe that one. Has Livingston ever beat Jasper? Wow, they must be bringing it this year to beat Jasper.

Aggie John, what kind of team does Dayton have it appeared by the score they hung with WOS until about the 3rd Quarter?

Jasper is down and Livingston is a solid team. Someone said it was '51 last time the Lions beat Jasper. Livingston did make the playoffs last year. They have a RB that is as good as we will see this year, and their offensive line featured a 6'6" and 6'4" along with their other big buddies. Was a good predistrict opponent.

Hup how far is Jasper down? I have read where they were suppossed to be really competitive for the district crown this year.

Hardin Jeff looks like they are going to have some problems this year if they are playing Anahuac that close.

It is hard to say. Soph. QB and Freshman RB should tell you a lot about the Jr. and Sr. class. Jasper doesn't have a whole lot of size. The speed is certainly still there. Defensive backfield is blazing fast and the qb, rb can break it in a heartbeat. Defense plays hard and hits hard, but depth is a problem. Hopefully other 3A teams will suffer from that as well. I think they can't do anything but get a lot better as the year goes on. Can't see them beating WO-S for sure, but I feel like anyone else they can match up with just fine.

You also have to take in to consideration that Livingston has consistently increased in enrollment over the past few decades and is now 150% larger than Jasper (1221 vs. 819), which has lost enrollment over the past 30 years.

That was the main reason WOS didn't schedule Nederland for the first time in 30 years this season. WOS was larger than Nederland when it first opened in the late 70's and now Nederland is closing in on having double the enrollment of WOS (1471 vs. 775)

Dayton is a very solid team. No offense to our district mates, but we considered it our toughest game on the schedule coming in, so we're really happy getting out with a win. Dayton has a D1 running back in Dugat and a VERY potent running/passing threat in Thomas. The defense is also solid. WO-S simply wore them down, which is quite a feat considering we had only 26 guys suited out.

True, but I still don't understand why we scheduled Dayton, who has about 30 students less than NED. To me, that's not a significant difference in student population.

I believe Dayton extended the invitation wanting a suitable opponent to christen the opening of their new stadium... and perhaps the coaching staff didn't want to overextend the team and risk injuries playing 3 consecutive strong 4A teams with twice the depth we have... (or so we thought until Bay City lost 0-42 yesterday to Houston St. Pius)
