I think Merkel is at 16 games. There last win was 42-19 vs Ballinger in Week 3 of 2004. They then lost to Breckenridge, SA Lakeview, everybody in district, and then a winless 2005.

Slaton lost 34 in a row. It started with a bi-district playoff loss in 1999 to Crane. They lost all 10 games in 2000, 01, and 02...and then lost their 1st 3 games in 2003 before beating Tahoka 31-10.

16 is not even relatively close to anything anybody else has said.

Yeah the longest streak in the nation is 59 games by some team from Ohio. Texas is unknown by me....and will remain that way until someone ELSE tells me...ok by by

A South Dakota team is within striking distance of setting a dubious national record this season for consecutive defeats.

The Sturgis High School Scoopers enter the 2006 campaign with 77 consecutive defeats, only five off the listed on-field national standard of 82 in a row.

The record was posted from 1990-99 by Glascock County High of Gibson, Ga. However, Glascock County was later granted a forfeit "paper" victory of a 1997 defeat.

Second on the losing skid chart is Jones High of Houston, Texas, which dropped 80 in a row from 1985-91.

While the losing standard may be bettered this season, the victory mark is safe. The 151-game win streak recorded by De La Salle High of Concord, Calif., from 1991-2003 remains, by far, the best ever posted in high school varsity football. With 12 consecutive unbeaten seasons, the Spartans recorded one of the most remarkable streaks in high school sports.

The three longest active win streaks belong to Independence High of Charlotte, N.C., (92), Central Catholic of Modesto, Calif. (61), and South Panola of Batesville, Miss. (45).

As for Texas longest losing streak coming into this year dont know who it is

20 miles east.....I saw how bad it was a year or so ago. They weren't our biggest rival when I was in school, but pretty close.

I would have missed it...I thought Houston Jones had the longest all time and I thought it was 82 losses in a row. Thanks for the update.

You have to go the first 2nd week of Aug. to see the motorcycle mammas. Sturgis and the surrounding area is one of the most beatiful places in the US to visit. So much historical sight seeing to keep you busy for a couple of weeks.

40 in a row is all it will be for Alba Golden. they busted out of the gate with an exciting 7-6 win over Cumby. congrats, everybody deserves to get a W once in a while.
