Bailey holds off Mudcats

Homer Bailey tossed six scoreless innings en route to his seventh straight victory as Chattanooga edged visiting Carolina, 8-7, on Monday.
Bailey (7-0) allowed two hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter, lowering his ERA to 1.06. Opponents are batting .198 against the 20-year-old right-hander.
Jon Coutiangus nearly squandered an 8-0 lead, yielding seven runs on four hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings before Brock Till restored order by getting the final four outs for his fifth save. Chattanooga (35-29) remained 3.5 games behind first-place Huntsville in the Southern League North Division.
Joey Votto ripped his league-leading 44th double and capped a five-run fifth with a two-run single. Drew Anderson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Kevin Randel and Jonathan Aceves each hit three-run doubles as Carolina (26-38) scored seven runs in the eighth.
