The Aransas Pass Panthers kicked off their season with a Saturday scrimmage in Beeville, taking what they learned on the practice field to the gridiron against another opponent for the first time.

The Panthers tied the Bees with a score of 7-7 in a regular quarter but failed to stop them when running offense to defense plays. Beeville ran 25 offensive plays against the Panther's defense to score three touchdowns, where Aransas Pass failed to find the end zone.

“We didn't play with as much intensity as I expected,” said Head Coach P.J. Larsen. “We had some kids just now start playing again and it showed.”

Coach Larsen named several players who showed an outstanding performance in Saturday's scrimmage, including Nathaniel Wyatt, C.J. Chandler, Richard Lockhart and Erik Kindervater, who contributed to the Panthers' performance.

Starting quarterback Jarrod Newman ran 40 yards to score the only touchdown during the scrimmage.

Coach Larsen said that the coaches and his staff are going to work out problems they found during the scrimmage and should be ready to take on San Diego in their first regular game of the season.

Sounds like they have a bit of work ahead of them to prepare for season play.
