View Full Version : Region III Game of the Week (Zero): Wharton vs Barbers Hill (9/2)

LH Panther Mom
08-27-2006, 07:57 PM
The Wharton Tigers and Barbers Hill Eagles (4a) will meet in Pearland, Saturday.

Wharton returns 7/7 starters ( ), including QB Ansley. 2005 finished with 4-5 record, but 4 games were lost by 7 pts or less.

The Eagles, home of the ever-quiet Jody, will have a tough test this season with the move to 4a, but return 14 starters from the 10-1 team.

Predictions?

I need to go drag the BH folks over from the 4a board.

Barbers Hill doesn't look to good this year. In their first scrimmage, WOS manhandled them 33-0 and in last Friday's scrimmage with lowly Lumberton, they lost 21-7. I'll take Wharton in this one.

I think you guys could have picked a better game than this one. Should have picked WOS-Dayton.

Well, "you guys" is one chick. ;) If I knew of any Dayton posters, that might've been a better choice. Don't worry, WO-S, and possibly Silsbee, will have a GotW down the road.

Ahhhh feals so good posting on the Downlow!!!! 4A sucks already. This will be a tough game for BH as others have already put it BH has not done well in the first two scrimmages ,but guess what folks they were SCRIMMAGES!! Some teams go into scrimmages trying things out while others go into win cough....WOS....cough. Both teams that BH scrimmages this year had their first team in at some point while BH was playing their 2nd team. Would BH have won either game????? Lumberton yes WOS probally not. Now for Wharton as long as I remember Wharton comes into the season firing on all 8 then peters out as the season goes on. Unlucky for BH we got them early!! BH 1st team looks pretty good so far, A little rusty, but they will improve through out the year. Defense looks solid except the secondary. Should be a good game,I don't thing anyone will blow anyone out. BH has a lot to prove in this game to alot of folks if they want to be considered a front runner in their new 4A district. Goodluck to both teams!! Jody and I will seya in Pearland.

You obviously didn't see us vs. Waller Thursday night!;) Our guys get pretty tired sometimes.

Did Flannel get hurt? I thought that he finished the game, but it was hard to keep track of which one he was. At any rate the other two looked good to. Was the big kid, the one with the "porn star" name?

BH hasn't got much this year. As far as WO-S being out "to win" instead of seeing what works, we rotated QBs every series, and our starting RB didn't even start - he had three carries (one for a spectacular TD). He spent more time playing WR. BH folks are rationalizing their loss as the Stangs being out for blood, but that's a joke. We rotated in more players than they did - ours were just better.

LOL... You're right. WOS tried to pass, run, and block on offense, and on defense they continually tackled BH's vaunted offensive threats. How dare WOS do things to thoroughly embarrass the 4A BH team, who only showed up to "try things out!"

BTW, while BH was passing up the opportunity to practice fundamentals like WOS was doing, what were they "trying out"? My guess is the turkey legs. I would've gladly let them eat some of the scraps if only they would've promised to give at least a half-hearted effort to play in the scrimmage.

Either way, you all better bring your A-game this week, or else you're going to get your butts handed to you by a 3A school again... :D

Barker, you and Jody are the two biggest sore losers I've ever seen on these boards. What a lame excuse for getting beat. If you saw the game, you should have noticed that many of our players on both offense and defense were wearing white helmets, as opposed to others who were wearing silver helmets. The white helmet players are from our JUNIOR VARSITY, and many of them played significant time the entire game. Our coaches haven't decided on a starting QB, so we continually rotated two of them. Our starting tailback only played a portion of the first half. We moved around many of our players and tried them at various positions, to "see what would work". Plus, this was played in game-like four quarter conditions, which gives a more accurate gauge of what your team has. The coaches on these teams are oblivious to the bantering of us fans on this board, so there was no extra incentive to "win" this scrimmage on either side from the coaches viewpoint. They've got more important issues to address than to satisfy our thirsts for victory.

You finally got your wish to see your valiant Eagles play WO-S and look what happened. WO-S was clearly the better team than BH, just as Wimberley was the better team than WO-S last year.

WOS1
08-28-2006, 10:18 PM
All the smack they talk the last 2 years, now they are reduced to this... pitiful. You know, they keep talking about us playing our starters, but it's just that our second team shoved it down their throats too. In the second quarter, our backup QB and back up tailback come into the game with the ball on our own 1 yard line and they march it straight down the field on that "stud" defense. They couldn't tell the difference because the "D" was pourous at best.

Details??? Did you notice the detail where I said "Jody and Barker are the reasons" why SE TX folks dislike Barbers Hill? I didn't say "everyone", and I didn't use the word "hate". Pay attention.

WO-S fans have many good rivalries with teams throughout SE Texas, like PNG, Nederland, Jasper, and Bridge City. These are teams we've played many times over nearly 30 years. In years past, we've had many spirited discussions with fans from these schools on the various message boards. We've made a number of friendships with these same people and have enjoyed several after game dinners with them. What's amazing is that in the history of WO-S, we've had a grand total of one scrimmage with Barbers Hill. But for more than two years, some BH fans have talked trash to us like we're some kind of hated rival. If teams who are our REAL rivals don't treat us this way, and can be friends with us, then what does that say about SOME of the Barbers Hill fans?

Now, hopefully, you have a little perspective on the big picture.

How about let's go forward, put this behind us, and get back to the topic at hand? Which team is going to win -- this shouldn't be about BH fans being obnoxious. It should be about which BH team is going to show up to the game -- the one that got run over by Lumberton, steamrolled by WOS, or the one that people predict will win their 4A district?

shellman54
08-29-2006, 04:07 PM
Sounds good. If the BH team that played and got manhandled by WOS shows up, then it will be a long night. If the BH team that has all its parts running the right way shows up, I think it will still be close, but I say BH by 3.

To paraphrase your compadre, gosh, you are easy to get riled up.

RB, it's funny how you can't leave well enough alone. You've always got to whine about something -- if it's not Kirbyville spanking your butts in the playoffs the last two years in a row, it's someone making a peace offering. Just step back from the computer, take a deep breath, and relax. It'll all be okay. It's just a game -- even if you all did get demolished by WOS in your scrimmage.

BTW, I wonder how that scrimmage made you feel, not only knowing all the trash you and Jody talked about WOS over the past few years was going to come up and bite you, but realizing that your inaugural 4A season may have ended before it ever really got started. Any hope for potential success really got quelled by your outing in that scrimmage, didn't it?

Get focused now -- concentrate on the task at hand. The thread is about Wharton and BH, although, realistically, I think we both know BH is in trouble going into this game.

Two good teams one is going to win. Wharton is returning the house and BH returns a lot as well. For BH they are going to have to stop the long ball on Defense and the offense will have to hold on to the ball. These two things happen and BH gets a "W" if not the next two weeks don't get any easier Jasper and Bellville:eek:

LOL, RB... Maybe, if you don't like it, you should go somewhere else. Last I checked, this was a 3A board, and one of these things are not like the other:

3A message board
Wharton - 3A
WOS - 3A

BTW, I'm sorry that you're so jealous of the many WOS successes, and I can tell you wish BH fans could meet, sit around, and talk about how good you all are, but after seeing your team this year, we both know it'll be a long time before you get that privilege. It is pretty funny, though, to see just how envious you are of WOS and our history. At least you can now sit around and talk about how exciting it was to get to see WOS give BH a beating and make them enjoy it.

Very well. Since this is the last word ;) ;) , I'll see if I can summarize a few of WOS' many accomplishments. Since I know how much you envy all our successes and love reading about our history, it comes as no surprise that you would ask me to post this.

WOS has been in existence less than 30 years, but in that time has won many individual and team athletic titles, as well as academic and artistic competitions. In athletics alone, we have a number of district titles in baseball, football, basketball (boys and girls), track (boys and girls), and volleyball. We are definitely known as a football school, but that is only because we've dominated that sport in this area for so long -- as you may know, no school in the Golden Triangle has a winning record against us and no school in Texas has a higher winning percentage than us; however, we have had a lot of successful athletes in a bunch of other sports. Currently, Brandon Johnson is the reigning PAC 10 400M hurdle champion; John Patterson, who was the 5th overall pick in the MLB draft, was in the starting rotation for the Washington Nationals prior to being placed on the DL this year; Travessa Gant, who was one of the best players of all time for Lamar University, now plays professional womens basketball; and so on.... I'm sure you get the picture. I'm happy that you're proud of your history -- and you should be -- but, I'm also impressed at how curious you are to learn ours.

Now, back to the topic at hand.

Jealous:hand: why would I be jealous of a school that doesn't hold a hair at being anywhere close to the successas that BH has in any sport they play regardless of gender . You got a good football team congrats! then you disapear off of the face of the earth because except last year in b-ball you suck at everything else. When WOS can compete with BH in all sports and activities just let me know. Untill then I'm pretty happy with what BH has accomplished over thier history. The only history WOS has is football. If you want to see some history come by BH and we will let you see the trophy/award room, you know it like your except its not in a closet:D

Ok thats it for me I'll let the WOS fans have the last word. then lets stay on topic. Give it to me guys:D

WO-S boys baseball team beat BH last year 3-0 in the only meeting ever between the 2 programs. The WO-S girls Basketball team just absolutely embarrased the BH girls last year as well. I guess you "all arounders" are 0-3 all around against us...;)

I'm staying out of this, but I would pay good money to see a tag team match of: BH and Wharton vs. WOS and WC. If nothing else but to see the first to get to the bottom of the local chinese food buffet.

That's funny... but you do understand that once anything you say starts to make sense to RBARKER or Jody they stop reading it, right?

BH has several very good players coming back from last year. I have to think Price will find the right spot for his studs and BH will mend their ways or else..BH doesn't take losing very well.

As far as WO-S/BH garbage that will never die down..both have 2 state championships..wo-s hasn't won in near 20 years and BH is nearly 30...next one to win a state championship has the real bragging rights. I wish Jasper could get just 1!!! Can we count the one Jasper Rowe won the year before integration? :)

Well, that's true... but WO-S was in the state game in 2000 and the semis last year, whereas BH hasn't won more than a game in the playoffs but a few times since their state years.

Don't count Wharton out they played a good team tonight. Wharton's QB is good and #9 has some wheels. Goodluck Wharton.

Congratulations to BH on a solid win against a good team.

Hopefully the few bad apples among your fans (Barker) will discontinue the namecalling and the sore loser attitude about the scrimmage defeat two weeks ago. Both teams used the scrimmage to work out the kinks, discover their strengths and weaknesses, and make decisions on player positions. It has helped both teams make progress.

Wishing you a successful season in 4A.

Yeah, the computer and crushing an inferior team (BH). :P
Speaking of "little guys," where is Jody these days? :D
