Norm Snead's gotta be at least 65 by now, so I'll go with McCoy, whoever he is.

Texas tabs McCoy to start at quarterback

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas has picked the successor to Vince Young.

Redshirt freshman Colt McCoy will start at quarterback for the Longhorns, head coach Mack Brown said Monday. He's the first freshman to start a season opener at Texas since Shea Morenz, and just the fourth freshman to start since Brown took over at Texas in 1998, joining Major Applewhite (1998), Chris Simms (1999) and Young (2003).

"Greg Davis is the best there is at developing quarterbacks, and we've had a great deal of success when we've had to play freshmen here," Brown said in a statement released by the school. "He has Colt really prepared as we head into the season, and I think he'll put him in a position for our offense to continue the success we've had the last several years."

McCoy was a schoolboy star in Texas, where he went 34-2. He threw for 9,344 yards in high school.

McBoy beat out true freshman Jevan Snead, a Parade All-American from Stephenville, Texas.

I think Sergio is injured and may have to be redshirted this year. :(

Norm snead, another blast from the past. Phi. Eagles, right?
There were some good QBs in Dallas' Division back then.

I haven't followed spring practices or comments on downlow enough to pick snead or mccoy. My guess would be Mccoy because of a little bit more experience.

I watched Jevan Snead play last year, and he was impressive. Never seen McCoy in person, but I think that the Longhorns are in good shape at the QB position for several years to come.

It's just an ankle sprain, let him sit the first few weeks and have him ready to play the last non conf game.

McCoy will get the start until he gets another concussion.
Then game over.
He suffered 2 or 3 during his high school career, one to the hands of our team.

If Texas is going to run the same offense they did with Vince, then Snead would be the more logical choice!! He is more athletic than Colt and to tell you the truth im startin to think that Mack will alternate them to much and it could cost them but i hope im wrong!!!!!!!!!

Jevan will most likely be a 40 up, 40 down guy. All Colt has to do is make the right decisions, throws, and hand off's to the stable of running backs in this offense and he will be alright(with the talent surrounding him).

While I agree--and I agree that Snead's passes are definitely crisper and right on target--he really isn't ready right now. He was hesitant in the scrimmage and kept throwing forced passes; albeit it, nice spirals. I'll be glad to get him some reps in the North Texas game. That should break him in a bit.

Right now, Colt is hands down better than Jevan. That's because Colt's been in the system a year and has been taught, personally, by VY.

Mack Brown wont run the same offense as last yr...he will go back to past years by giving it to the beast RB's texas has and will air it out with McCoys strong arm...Snead isn't fast enough to Run the '05 offense

No Mack has said plenty of times that they are going to run that zone read out the shotgun that they did with Vince!!! Wheather or not they stick to that i doubt it but thats what he has been saying!!

It will work because they can utilize the playaction off of it.

What i want to see out of Texas is to stick with one QB for the entire season unless he gets hurt or is struggling very bad and the team lose a couple in a row!!! I don't want them to get them in a rotation or keep switching them just b/c one throws an interception or fumbles!!!

That doesn't matter at this point. Many players suffer multiple concusions from junior high to high school.

I didnt ask who you played for. I ask who do you play for?
Even Troy Aikman suffered to many concussions and had to give it up.

TUSCOLA - Despite a huge 40-0 victory over San Saba Friday night, the Jim Ned Indians won't be advancing to the playoffs.

Jim Ned, which had dropped two district contests after the loss of quarterback Colt McCoy because of concerns over concussions, finished in a three-way tie for second with Winters and
Coleman in District 9-2A, at 3-2. Coleman clinched the third playoff spot with a win over Winters.

The Indians (8-2 overall) got 113 yards and one TD on five carries from Cody Peel.
