August 24, 2006

Homer Bailey and two relievers combined on a six-hitter as Chattanooga routed Birmingham, 10-0, on Wednesday at The Hoover Met.
Bailey (6-0) scattered four hits, walked three and struck out four over five innings. Calvin Medlock gave up two hits and two walks while fanning two in three frames, and David Shafer worked a perfect ninth to complete the Lookouts' second shutout this month.

Chris Dickerson went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Chattanooga (31-28). Noochie Varner had a sacrifice fly in the fifth and capped a five-run seventh with a two-run double.

Birmingham starter Corwin Malone (9-10) surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on two hits while tying a season high with seven walks over 6 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old left-hander did not allow a hit until Miguel Perez singled with two outs in the fifth.

Michael Myers had two hits for the Barons (26-32). --Marc Jimenez/MLB.com
