One of UT's players Stephanie Logterman (see below) plays defender for the U20 Ladies USA soccer team and has seen much action.
The first game the USA won over DR Congo 2 to 1. This was a closer game than expected but with the subsequent play the Africans have showed they are a good team especially on defense. Stephanie played the entire 90 minutes and played a great game with the single exception of a poor pass to a Congolese player which unfortunately led to their goal but fortunately we were able to score 2 goals to win the game.
In the second game the USA looked sharp beating an Argentina team 4 to 1 and Stephanie played the whole game again and did a great job.
In their bracket the USA now plays France for 1st place. Both teams have cinched going to the quarterfinals but a win will give the winner the first place birth of this bracket which would be a great advantage. The game is to be this Thursday I think.
The opponents for the US in the quarterfinals will probalby be either Germany or North Korea. We will see.
We look forward to getting Stephanie back to Austin and in her UT burnt orange and white playing for UT. But first unfinished business in Russia (where the games are played). Go Stephanie! Go USA!
