Tatum eagles area fast. They have a handful of guys running 4.5's and less in the 40.

I agree. Districts 11-16 is where you'll find the most speed in 3A.

Sinton should be fairly fast this year.

No 3A school in the state has speed year in and year out like Sweeny. They are always fast.

I agree with you Specklebelly, the Sweeny Bulldogs are super fast every year no doubt.

My list is Atlanta, Everman, Marlin, Wilmer-Hutchins, Jasper, and Gainesville..along with 2 teams already mentioned Sweeny and Sinton...Forney was really fast last year but I dunno if year in and year out they have exceptional speed like the teams mentioned above...although their speed is consistently good...

wharton will be a pretty fast team overall.

La Grange normally has good speed, just about every year. And, this Sinton team is an exception, not the normal rule. Sinton always has some speed, but this one's uncommon for us.

What about Cold Springs? Aren't they usually fast? I've had a few coaches tell me that.

Sinton66, PI, has had good speed, however they do not have every year. PI widereceiver is the states fastest 400 meter runner. He has several others nipping at his heals. The 1990 and 1994 PI teams had speed. In 1990 PI's running back was very fast. But the fastest player that I ever heard of was from Refugeo. Sorry, I can not remember his name. The other that sticks out in my mine is Fred Smith from Sealy.

Tarp,I think the man you're thinkin of is Toya Jones of Refugio!

Yea Toya Jones was fast. He went on to play football and run track for Texas A&M, and I think he is now playing with the Houston Texans.

You are correct, Toya Jones is a one year exp. free safety with the inaugural Houston Texans. He wears #27, and is one of six Aggies on the team. Their official website is www.houstontexans.com. (http://www.houstontexans.com.)

Yes, Jasper has had a bit of speed. Four state team championships in 4a, and so many 2nd, 3rd and 4th place team finishes at 4a state that I lost count. They finished second at 4a state meet this past spring. Their 1991 400m relay team set a national record at state of 39.9 seconds. Two of the guys off that relay team are still playing in the NFL and a third went to the Atlanta Olympics in the 400 meter hurdles.

Barbers Hill usually has pretty good team speed year in and year out. BH doesnt have alot of those giant corn feed boys like a lot of the teams they face, so they make it up with speed.

Zack Bronson, starting DB for the 49ers. John Davis, reserve tight end, Chicago. Brian Bronson, 400 meter hurdles.

By the way footballgal, Jasper had a woman in the same olympics in the triple jump. For the life of me, I cannot remember her married name, but I think her maiden name at Jasper was Wells.

j_dog, that is too cool! Wonder if anybody else in 3A comes close to that? That's pretty amazing!

I agree Jasper, Barber's Hill and SWEENY are always fast. Bridge City always wins their District track meet with mostly football players-so they can hold their own also. Splendora seems to have a fast team lately.

Obviously, Newton's had a lot of speed over the last few years too, although I have no idea about year in and year out. What are you guys putting in the water over there?

Yup no one in Class 3A has the kinda world class athletes that Jasper has had in the past...it looks like the tradition is just continuing...

A few teams that come to mind are Sealy, Sweeny, and, even though they don't make the playoffs often, Manor.

Newton usually has some speed yr in and yr out but we have never had player that could take off and nobody catch. We have two or three in the 4.4 range and a slew in the 4.5 range. Newton kids tend to be very quick instead of fast. Man i'm ready for the season to start!!!

Speaking of "world class", probably the last Jasper world class guy was Lawrence Armstrong, ran 100 for UT. Lead Jasper to the state 4a championship in 1997. Made the National Junior Olympic team that year. Anchored the winning 400m relay in the world meet in Australia after getting the baton several yards behind. He is slow on his starts, but at about 60 yards the afterburners kick in. Wasn't bad in football either. Tried out for the last olympics, but came up short. I hope he tries for the next round. Just someone to watch if you like track.

I think that Ballinger had a kid who ran a 4.6 one time...I take that back...the guy I am thinking of was in the band not football!! Darn!!

If football speed is what we're talking about, it would be hard to leave Daingerfield off the list. Year in and year out, D'field wins with speed. At present, the fastest is 4.33. Two more at 4.4. Another dozen at 4.5. Altogether, more than 40 kids run under 4.8.

Wow! that is speed. Our school only has one real speedster. He is fast in the 400 meter, but in the 40 he is around 4.6, and if he is lucky around 4.5.

A team that no one ever cares about has alot of speed this year. The Palestine Westwood Panthers have some speed. There fastest guy is a lineman, who weights about 260, 6'3, and ran a 4.5 with a pulled hamstring. He can flat out fly. His name is Chip Brown. There are several who run 4.5's and 4.6's.

To Big Bell-I think I would run from an ole single wing if I had speed and size- in one great athlete, carrying the ball!
