I see they also listed District 30 in the top 10. It is going to be a very interesting year for this district now that they have 6 teams again.

This list shows how little research DCTF does at times...any top 5 3A list needs to include 20-3A and 18-3A

7-3A is tough at the top with Wylie and Sweetwater but after that?? Same with 9-3A yeah you got Celina and Bonham but after that?? 15-3A is Gilmer and who else? 25-3A has Wimberley and Bandera....30-3A has Ingleside and Sinton and who else??

Give me 20-3A with Carthage, Crockett, Rusk and a rejuvenated Diboll squad with Gilbert Moye...

How about 18-3A with Hutto, Cameron Yoe, Liberty Hill and Taylor...how is that district not included??? Ridiculous

I agree with Matthew - I think Dave is going senile. I couldn't in all fairness say that district 7 is the 2nd toughest district in the state.

so, on my "to do" list.

1) make a better high school football magazine than Dave Campbell's

2) make a better texas magazine than Texas Monthly

I think both tasks could easily be done.

30 3a any of the teams have a decent chance of winning the district. i would think that is what the magazine is refering to as one of the toughest. Aransas Pass, West Oso, Ingleside, Mathis, Orange Grove and Sinton all have playoff experience programs. There might not be a top 10 team in there but overall the teams are about even which would make for a tough district between them.

30-3A may be balanced but give me 20-3A with 3 top 20 teams and another team in Diboll who could be very good...or 18-3A that has 3 top 20 teams and a 4A playoff team in it...

I'd have to disagree. Toughest should signify the districts that it's the hardest to get into the playoffs and no clear-cut "winners". Unless your team was Clyde or Merkel, there wasn't any question as to the teams that would make it. Any district that has 5 or 6 teams fairly equal in talent is going to be tough.

I disagree. A district full of mediocre teams that get bounced in the first round isn't a tough district in my book.

no need to slam DC ... DC is only the Editor-In-Chief now .... and I have it from a friend who writes sports for the Waco Tribune Herald that the title is really an honorary one. Dave, who in case you didnt know is a legendary Central Texas sportswriter, certainly had no part of that article.

believe me, DC has forgotten more than you know about Texas HS football. probably more than 95% of us.

That sounds about right. I think the only eason DC's name was used is because tha magazine bears his name - and it isn't what it used to be.

I agree with 2 on, but I believe he got #1 correct. This district, since 2000 has 5 semifinal appearances, 1 state title appearance and a TON of playoff wins.

Not to mention six playoff teams (eight wins) from last year - including a semifinalist.

its just a differing of opinions .... probably half the districts in the stae could make a case for being included in a top 5 toughest ...

yeah i thought 18 3a would definatly be top 5. They are top 5 in my opinion. Hutto went 13-3, Cameron Yoe went 13-1, Liberty Hill went 11-3, Taylor was a 4a playoff team last year.
