Every place can make a hamburger...but what about the places with the specialty burgers. Which one is your favorite? I guess to set some parameters...a "specialty" burger can be a single patty...but it has to be at least a 1/3 of a pound and/or have some unusual sides...like guac or egg or something that you don't find on a regular hamburger. Here a few examples from the chain places that I have enjoyed many times:

Big Mac - McDonalds
A1 Thick & Hearty - Whataburger
BBQ Cheddar - Whataburger

Fritos Chili Cheese Crunch at DQ
Burger at a place in Austin featuring five patties of beef, the works, and a pound of waffle fries. I finished what UT linemen couldn't. :)

Gardski's Loft in Lubbock...I don't remember the name of the burger, but my favorite had guacamole, sour cream & green chilis....mmmmm

Also, if you ever find yourself on 6th street in Austin, Hut's Hamburgers is great! They have numerous options to choose from and you can get them made with longhorn if you prefer, for a lower fat version.

Hut's is really good, along with Player's on MLK. For my fiancee and I's first Valentine's Day, we ended up at Player's ordering Bacon Cheeseburgers after the suckfest that was La Traviata. Seemed like the best burger ever compared to the lousy meal and service we got at that swanky joint.

Chilie's Cracked Peppercorn Burger is one fantastic burger. It has a huge patty, all the timmings you want, onion rings, and blue cheese dressing on it. In fact I've never had a bad burger from Chilies. And they have great french fries.

I ate Chilis last night and was so tempted to buy this one, but I ended up going with the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich. Maybe next time I'll give this one a try. And yes, the fries are good there too.

Give it a try. I promise you wont regret it, but the blue cheese dressing does get a little messy. You might want a bib. I had them leave off the dressing last time so it wouldnt be so messy, but it just wasnt the same. Still very good, but the dressing really adds something to it.
