View Full Version : What Are Some teams Known For?

Bullaholic

What are a lot of programs historically known for? For example---

Bridgeport is known for its wide-open spread offense and excitement, unit platooning (unusual in 3A), and usually a mediocre W-L record going into the playoffs, but good showing once in the playoffs.

Who else is known year-after-year for their size? speed? offense? defense? hitting?

liberty is known for it's run first, run second, run third, and then on the fourth down run again......we pass maybe once in ten plays

Wylie is known for always being well prepared. This is because their coaching staff, lead by Hugh Sandifer (coach for 18 or 19 years now), has had very little turnover. Also, they don't get blown out very often because they are able to adapt their offense to fit a particular opponent and exploit their weakness.

I have to say, the most annoying overused instance of "misdirection" was the 2002 playoff game against Yoakum. The announcer really needed a new script. Every time we carried the ball, his line was "Liberty Hill on the misdirection play". Duh! Ya think?

Sure thing. There are going to be some very good games in ET this year starting with the kickoff clasic games at Tyler's stadium. The field will be renamed with Earl Campbell being added to the name. The "Tyler Rose" himself will be there. Gilmer plays the team from Las Vegas there that weekend.

Iowa Park is known for being a smash-mouth style physical football team.

As far as the team's offensive styles go... Yes, Wylie's staff is second to none. Sandifer's offense can run multiple sets and adjust to the defensive scheme.
You really have to look at the coaches that are in town for a particular period of time.
Right now, Bridgeport is an air-it-out type of attack and have been for Henson's reign. Jackson over in Sweetwater runs the ball first out of the wishbone style attack.
Look at Graham, when Buorquin was there they would put you to sleep running the split-veer for however (9 to 10?) many years he was there. Then McCoy comes in and he throws the ball 35 times a game with 4 or 5 receivers wide.
What teams are known for, in my opinion, reflects the coaching staff.

I almost completely agree with the exception of Sweetwater because the whole run the ball run the ball run the ball offense we have has been around since...well as long as I can remember. I actually think that the powers that be only hire coachs who will do that. Feels good to post something again, I've been gone for far too long.

You made a good point. Whenever a head coaching position comes open, it's the school board, superintendent, etc... who has the final say in who will be hired. You know they go over philosophies as to what they will do on the field. With this in mind, maybe some schools like to stay within a certain scheme, something that everybody is used to, etc.....
Then again, if or when Jackson ever takes another job, Sweetwater could hire one of the "air attack" coaches that are so popular these days. Just look at what Sandifer is doing this year at A.Wylie.

I'll have to see it to believe it but so far in practice they have sure put alot of passing in the offense. Not running the option much at all and have installed a more pro-type offense.

WOS1

At WO-S: Defense, lots of speed and being very physical. Until the last few years, you DID NOT run the ball on our defense. If you had no passing game you were beat. Hopefully, we will see that defense again this year.

Ingleside:
The three years since Hesseltine's been there-- spread offense.
The late-60's through the early-00's-- running a smashmouth offense (often wishbone) with undersized, but blazing fast, teams.

Actually I think he went to jr high (or part of it) at T-M before coming to Calallen. If he'd come straight here from Decatur I don't think it would've been such a controversy.

Monahans is known for a great tradition of 24 or 25 playoff appearances in its history. '48 state champs. 13-1 this past season. Monahans is also known for being tough oil field kids who play hard. Monahans is known for the wing-t offensively. Monahans is known for having an aggressive defense that likes to hit. Monahans right now is known for having put together one of the better coaching staffs around. Hopefully Coach Owens can keep this staff together in Loboland for many years to come. Thats the word on the street.
